Eight instructors met and held a shoot at Monticello Sportsmen Club in Monticello MN and we enjoyed a beautiful day of celebrating our freedoms and getting ready for another season of Appleseed events.
We started out this morning with our Hits Count target, a couple of squares and then right into a rapid-fire AQT before it got too warm out. The group managed 6 out of 8 riflemen scores on this first AQT, probably would have been 8 for 8, but someone decided to shoot another person's third stage. (See - even instructors have a hard time finding the right target). The next AQT was traditional and we got the last two their blue icicle patch.
We spent the morning and early afternoon working on our finer points of shooting and talking about upcoming events and generally getting to know each other better.
We had a beautiful day - the morning dawned clear blue skies with lots of sun and a balmy 29 degrees and it warmed up to a sweltering 36-37 degrees when we closed this afternoon.
As these were all instructors, it was no surprise they earned their Winterseed Patches. In addition, Ward shot his first distinguished score of 240 on his second AQT of the day and Robert followed with 242 on the third. Congratulations on your accomplishments.
Thank you to the volunteers who came out - Greg who drove up from Iowa along with Dave, Kevin, Mike, Robert, Sawyer, Tim, and Ward from the MN crew. It was good to get together knock some of the winter rust off and look forward to another productive year for advancing the mission of Project Appleseed in 2023.

Great time! Thank you all for such a great first event for the year!
I had a pretty good time.
Got a kick out of the fact that 6 out of 8 shot rifleman on the first go and the other two probably would have. What had we shot before the first AQT..., a Redcoat and two squares? 23 rounds?
Next time I come up, I'm hoping there will be a variety of hotdishes. A smorgasbord of hotdishes, if you will. It is Minnesota after all.
Looking forward to next winter.
Challenge accepted! I call dibs on bringing tator tot hotdish! Or... wait, maybe goulash? Well, I suppose we can sort that out throughout the year.
It was a great shoot. I proudly showed my newly acquired "distinguished" rocker patch to Jodi and she asked if it pertained to the grey hair over my ears or in my whiskers. ;D
Hopefully one of you vikings will bring Surströmming hotdish.
