Title: Norman, OK AAR - Oct. 29-30, 2022
Post by: pballer2oo7 on October 31, 2022, 01:28:14 PM
We had an awesome shoot at the Tri-City Gun Club in Norman, Oklahoma (https://tcgc.us/) this weekend.

We had 28 shooters on the line and one of them qualified Rifleman on the first AQT on Saturday. Very well done! We had a couple others that were within a couple of points. I'm confident they'll persist and qualify soon.

The weather was perfect. Leading up to the event the Norman area was experiencing rain off and on. But when it was time to get on the line we had no precipitation and very welcomed cloud cover with cool temperatures (maybe a little too cool for some :P).

Tri-City Gun Club (https://tcgc.us/) is a big supporter of Project Appleseed. They promoted the event heavily to their membership and youth shooting programs. Many of them joined us on the line. Thank you TCGC!

TCGC allows us to camp on the range throughout the weekend and we had several shooters and instructors take advantage. Chatting and enjoying each other's company by the evening fire was fantastic.

This is a little late in coming, and a briefer post than is deserved. This Appleseed Clinic was one of the top five things my brother thanked God for sending our way this year.

I have received lots of instruction through college and lots of professional training, and the volunteer instructors were among the best teachers of any kind I've ever had. To control a line of almost 30 people, including many children, as well as tired and inexperienced adults, all wielding instruments with deadly consequences, with total calm and incredible patience, and yield such improvement in two days was awesome to behold!

The passion that instructors conveyed for our common heritage of freedom was infectious and the stories stuck with the children afterwards. I took a whole semester of independent study on the founding of our republic, and I still learned a lot. I loved the idea of daily "5 minutes for Liberty".

We were committed to being able to take care of ourselves before and be involved citizens, but we came away committed to be disciplined Riflemen for Liberty.

My advice to anyone, is to just go to it without delay. We came during one of our busiest years, with mostly unsighted, untested rifles and had problems of all kindsâ€"and still learned tons and had a blast. One of our fellow attendees we met there (and have already gone to the range with again since), commented that this was better than training he'd taken from a nationally known instructor that cost five times as much. I've read that some people complain the techniques are antiquatedâ€"to which my reply will now be "Can you hit Morgan's shingle?" The skills go hand-in-hand with the history and legacy. It's a great set of tools to learn but developing focus and fervor for freedom is even more valuable.

We will be back (with sighted, functioning rifles), with more new folks, and we're going to qualify!
