Wow what a great weekend. It is getting close to winter in Fl so the weather was wonderful. It was a nice 85 to 90 each day of the event. :)
Our weekend started out with much talk of the importance of gathering DOPE and everybody brought their pencils and paper to get it done. By lunch time on day one everyone had established a good zero and gathered DOPE out to 400 yards. An enormous was learned with those DOPE books. Some shooters even found that they thought they came to the event with a good Zero but upon shooting the rifle found that not to be the case. That said with real world DOPE they still had no troubles making score on the AQT.
It did get a bit hot in the afternoon but we had a nice Zero value wind to help keep us cool.
By the end of day one 50% of our shooters had made the required 40 out of 50 hits on the target to qualify for the Long distance tab.
The morning on day two was beautiful. A little damp and cool so we got right to it. We talked a bit more about how environmental conditions would effect bullet drop. Remember we shot our DOPE at 90 degrees, its now 70 degrees but heating up fast.
We studied the math behind range estimation. All shooters learned the ins and outs of ranging a target and in the practical exercise all shooters were within about 50 yards of getting the exact distance of the simulated targets.
By the end of our weekend ALL BUT TWO SHOOTERs shot a qualifying score on the full distance AQT. Great job by all.
Just for fun at the end of the day we applied what we learned with standard come-ups and put them to the test. Everybody checked there dope books they could zero there rifle at 400 and applied the standard come up of 4 MOA to go up to 500 yards. It got everyone on paper and with a little adjustment all shooters that wanted to put rounds in the target at 500 yards, the rifleman's Quater mile.
I will get some pics posted soon but if you have any please post them
I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Good times, special thanks to the PMRPC crew who set this event up for us! It was a pleasure to watch everyone learn and improve their long-distance skills.
It was a great weekend and I agree with your assessment. Except for that thing about not being HOT. ;D I guess I live a little too far north in Tennessee.
I saw a lot of great instruction, shooting and kudos to the PMRPC for hosting the event. The electronic targets are fabulous. This is a really nice facility. I look forward to possibly coming back to the RBC there in April 2023.
Congrats to B.C. for getting his 100 event pin. ^:)^
Thanks again for all you do.

Worth mentioning: four shooters nailed the cold bore shot on Morgan's Shingle at 250 yards.
