It was a great weekend at Piqua Fish and Game outside of Piqua, Ohio. We had 20 shooters participating, all of which were eager to learn. We started the weekend with a welcome and introductions, and then went into the safety briefing.
After the safety briefing we went right into a Redcoat. With 15 shooters on the line, we had 8 put three rounds into the 100, and 1 put three rounds into the 200, 300, and 400. No-one hit the shingle.
We then had instruction on the the Steady Hold Factors in the prone position and the Six Steps of Firing the Shot and Natural Point of Aim. After some work on squares targets, the shooters were given instruction on Inches, Minutes, Clicks. After some more work on sighting in on squares targets, we had some instruction on Talking Targets, and then did an exercise on Rifleman's Cadence before lunch.
During lunch, we heard about the First Strike of the Match. After this, we moved on to seated position and standing position lessons followed by leaning about the Second Strike of the Match. We had a treat, as one of the shooters, Russ, brought a brown Bess and bayonet to show to the other shooters.
We then shot two AQT's and finished the day with the Third Strike and a Redcoat. With 17 shooters on the line, we had 17 put three rounds into the 100, and 6 put three rounds into the 200, 5 put three rounds into the 300, 2 put three rounds into the 400 and 2 hit the shingle with no-one clearing the target.
Sunday was another beautiful day. We started with a review of the safety briefing and the steady hold factors, along with the six steps and natural point of aim. We then shot a Redcoat. With 19 shooters on the line, we had 17 put three rounds into the 100, and 10 put three rounds into the 200, 5 put three rounds into the 300, 4 put three rounds into the 400 and 8 hit the shingle with no-one clearing the target.
We gave lessons and exercises on Natural Point of Aim and Ball and Dummy Drills. We then started back into the AQT's with the shooters completing 8 AQT's on Sunday including a rapid fire AQT.
During lunch we had a lesson on Known Distance, followed by a team pumpkin shoot at 50 yards. Team 3 turned their pumpkin into pie filling.
We had a break in the afternoon to tell of some of the dangerous old men. We finished the day with another Redcoat. With 17 shooters on the line, we had 16 put three rounds into the 100, and 12 put three rounds into the 200, 6 put three rounds into the 300, 2 put three rounds into the 400 and 5 hit the shingle with no-one clearing the target.
All of the shooters displayed a great attitude, with several knocking on the door of rifleman. Harold reconfirmed his rifleman with a 212.
