Another weekend of Liberty at Izaak Walton League - Pikes Peak Gun Club! :F PPGC has been a terrific supporter of Project Appleseed over the last three years. They've accommodated us with our preference of berm selection, waiving the berm reservation fee, reduced range fees for participants and early start times. A huge Thank You to Randy, Abigail and their crew.
At the range on Saturday we started with 11 shooters and four pronghorn. The antelope left early and did not return on Sunday. #) Several shooters were 2nd or 3rd tim AS attendees and drove a couple of hours to attend the event. Jack was the sole youth shooter and the instructors were impressed with his attitude and persistence. Jack's scores steadily improved throughout the weekend, while following all of the safety rules. Jack's dad Bevan earned his Rifleman patch on Saturday with a 212 and followed that with three of four more qualifying scores on Sunday ending the day with a high of 35. Mindy was new to rifles, but you wouldn't have known it. She was the perfect example of a teachable positive attitude. Over the weekend, she made some "big time" progress with her scores. Across the board, everyone's scores improved markedly with May, Dion and Matt knocking on the door of scoring Rifleman. Rifle and ammunition issues were dealt with as they arose, but everyone maintained a good attitude and just kept enjoying the weekend.
Zuke, bravhrt and lead sled's strikes were well received. Along with the DOM stories on Sunday, the history generated some good discussion among the group. It was an enjoyable weekend and I believe everyone walked away with an appreciation of the men and women of the American Revolution.
Looks like another great Colorado shoot! Congrats to all the shooters and the volunteers!
The marksmanship displayed on the Sunday morning Redcoat was inspiring, with 10/10 shooters scoring 3 hits on the 100 yd target,
then 8/10 with 3 hits on the 200. Overall, an excellent event to conclude the Pikes Peak GC 2022 Project Appleseed season!
What an excellent event and what a great group of shooters. Great, learning attitudes and the marksmanship displayed throughout the weekend was top notch. The Redcoat stats speak for themselves and one new rifleman and at least 4 other shooters knocking on the door really made things exciting. Thanks to all the participants for spending the weekend at PPGC!
