Title: AAR AS Marengo, Ohio (Cardinal Center) October 8-9, 2022
Post by: Meadow on October 11, 2022, 10:40:41 PM
Well, another great Appleseed is in the books at Cardinal Shooting Center, Marengo, Ohio. We had 20 shooters arrive ready to work on their skills.  This included 9 beginner shooters ready to make marksman.  We started the weekend with a welcome, introduction to the goals of RWVA and Project Appleseed, and our normal safety briefing.  This was followed by bringing rifles to the line and we started the event on a Cold Frosty Saturday morning Red Coat. The event was filled with 6 iron sight rifles: 5 new shooters on borrowed rifles & 3 adaptive positions. Our team was up to the challenge.

Results were pretty good.  We had 14 shooters of 20 put three rounds in the 100 yd target, 11 @ 200, 7 @ 300, 2 @ 400 6 joined Daniel Morgan and we had 1 cleared Red Coat, congrats to Kiley.

We moved to the points of instruction (POI).  The steady hold factors in prone were presented followed by the six steps and NPOA.  After an NPOA/Carding/Laser sights drill, we moved the shooters (new/experienced) to practice mats with multiple laser rifles.  This hands-on drill proved to be of great value add to the shooters as they were able to relate to placing the shot along with trigger squeeze.  Improvements were realized as the next related drills were shot after each POI. We then shot sighting groups in anticipation of IMC.  We broke for lunch. IMC was presented.

At lunch we presented the First Strike and we returned to the line for sight adjustments and confirmation groups.  We moved on to the steady hold in seated with related drills.

A great Second Strike at our afternoon break and we returned to the line for Steady hold in standing.  Time permitted an AQT to be posted and shot which produced two Rifleman; congratulations to NEW rifleman Scott (iron sights) 222 & Requal; Brian (Flip) 223.
The day ended with our Saturday afternoon Red Coat.  Results were nearly the same as morning, but Cleared Red Coat belonged to "Flip" Brian. Progress was shown by all.

The Third Strike was presented by Meadow with a following call to action and we closed out the day.

Sunday dawned colder but less frost on the pumpkin.  Several shooters could not rejoin us on Sunday, so we were down 5 shooters on Sunday.  The morning Red Coat showed more progress.  We had 13 of 15 shooters at 100, 10 at 200, 6 at 300, 2 at 400, and 4 joined Daniel Morgan.  Gritty cleared Red Coat earning his first patch of the weekend.

We moved on to the AQT grind.

We shot six AQT's on Sunday.  We had three shooters deliver the score. Congrats new Rifleman: Kiley 216; Zack (Gritty) 219; Requal: AKA 218
Many of the other shooters were doing great with scores in the 180's to low 200's but the pressure of the AQT was enough to keep them from getting over the hump.

The DOM's were presented throughout the day and we ended the day with the Sunday afternoon Red Coat.  Results were consistent with the morning.  We had 13 of 15 at 100, 10 at 200, 3 at 300, 3 at 400, 3 joined Daniel Morgan; Sarah (iron sights) cleared the final Red Coat.  The physical efforts needed on Sunday had taken its toll.
The weekend event closed with additional awards and promotions.  We had three (3) new orange hats accepted:  welcome Scott; Zack & Kiley to the orange hat IIT.
Welcome to our newest Red Hat: Chico.  You did great job to keep us on track and to standard.

We officially closed the event with another call to action and a challenge for all to get involved in their communities.   My thanks to the shooters for having a safe event.  Thanks to Cardinal Shooting Center for their continued Appleseed Support.
Thanks to the AS team: Slowbutsure; Manik; Navy Shooter; USSenterpriseCV6; B.T.O.; Blackbird; Chico
