Title: AAR - Canton, Georgia - Instructor Improvement Day August 21, 2022

First and foremost, thank you to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department for lending us their range and for always being such stalwart supporters of Project Appleseed and the Second Amendment.

This was an awesome event! Originally, this was planned to be a half-day Appleseed for the After Church crowd. As we got closer though the sign up sheet remained empty. So, I called an audible and instead turned the day into an Instructor Improvement Day. Spoiler Alert! We had so much fun that we are going to make this a regular event!

The day began with a Safety Briefing for Pistol shooting. We then retrieved our pistols in a safe manner and met out on the firing line. The first target of the day was, the Hits Count target. Next, we spent a little bit of time on the Dots target warming up and sighting in equipment. After a bio break, we broke out the PQTs. We shot a total of 3 PQTs. I apologize as I don't think I got all the Pistoleerâ„¢s scores, but I did get the results. Congratulations to Axeman and Trekkie on requalifying! I should also note that Trekkie was using a centerfire with irons!   AND not to be out done, Upacreek shot a qualifying score too and became a Pistoleerâ„¢ AND a Pistol Instructor! Huzzah!

We then cleaned up, set up for rifle and went inside.

We had a nice lunch in the air conditioned classroom. I read, "Paul Revere's Report" on the events of April 19th in his own words. And then we all had a brief open discussion about it and the things we had noticed.

Next we cleaned up and rolled right into the Safety briefing for rifles. We then went back to our calls to retrieve our rifles safely. We met out on the range and the first target of the afternoon was the Redcoat target. We spent some time doing sighters until everyone was satisfied. We then did a series of alternating AQTs and Hasty AQTs. We closed out the day with a friendly competition using standing, kneeling, seated and prone position shot under time using unfamiliar rifles. It was a BIG challenge, but the Riflemen ate it up!  :---

When the white smoke of hundreds of .22 rounds cleared we had some very impressive results. Every AQT that was hung produced a Rifleman score

WileyCoyote - 225, 226, 237
Stockbreaker - 211, 216, 221, 225
Trekkie - 221, 235, 237, 242 - Distinguished
Upacreek - 227, 236, 240, 243 - Distinguished
Axeman - 234, 235, 243, 245 - Distinguished
Roswell - 217 (Shoot boss borrowed an unfamiliar rifle and shot score without warming up)

Thank you to everyone that came out! Let's do it again next year!

In Liberty,
Roswell

This was a great event!  I'm glad to hear we'll do it more often.  The history at lunch was new to me.  Overmountain's history on our National Anthem was pretty moving.  The details were grotesque and gives a graphic insight about how committed people were to giving us our freedom that too many seem anxious to give away.  Thanks to Roswell for sharing Revere's own account of 4/19/75. It can't get any clearer than from the direct source.

The shooting was awesome. Trekkie cheated with those bigger holes on paper!  lol - I AM just kidding (and jealous - some day :boohoo: ). Leadslinger66's instruction from a few weeks ago is starting to get through my thick skull. The PQT's were a challenge.  The AQT's were just loads of fun.  Roswell, Overmountain, and Wiley - thanks for spending your Sunday making sure we didn't get any extra piercings.

 :~ :--- (not in that order)

Sounds like a fun event!

Congratulations to all who requalified, and congratulations Upacreek on making pistol instructor. Brush up because now I can use you at pistol clinics to do some of that instruction!

This is how you turn lemons into lemonade!
Great idea for a regular event. Lord knows we instructors have precious few opportunities to shoot because we are so busy scheduling, organizing and teaching.
Congratulations to all!
