Title: AAR - Carroll, OH
Post by: Cadence on July 19, 2022, 07:41:28 PM
Rain, rain, go away.   :wb:

This was the mantra for the weekend at the Central Ohio Coon Hunters Association range in Carroll, OH. Almost steady rain for both days with just a few breaks did not deter 17 dedicated and stout hearted patriots from participating in a weekend of marksmanship and American heritage. Fortunately the range at COCH has a covered firing line. We had a mixture of returning attendees and new shooters, or as I like to look upon them as "seedlings".  ::)

We started Saturday morning with the normal welcome, introductions and moved on to the safety briefing. Rifles were brought to the line and the Saturday morning Red Coat was shot.  Results showed we had a great bunch of shooters. We had 13 of 17 shooters good at 100, 7 at 200, 2 at 300, 3 at 400, and 6 joined Daniel Morgan. We had one who cleared the target to earn his Ohio Patch. Congratulations David.!!  O0

We moved on to the steady hold factors in prone, followed by the six steps and NPOA instructions.  Related drills were shot in between the points of instruction and then broke for lunch and the First Strike.
.
After lunch we gave the IMC presentation on how to adjust sights shot confirming groups and moved on to the steady hold factors in seated which were followed by related drills. The Second Strike was presented by the Shoot Boss at the afternoon break.

This was followed by presentation of the standing steady hold factors and the afternoon Red Coat. The Saturday afternoon Red Coat had results which showed improvement over the morning effort.  Of the 17 shooters, we had 13 at 100, 8 at 200, 5 at 300, 3 at 400 and 6 joined Daniel Morgan. We had 2 persons clear the target - Congratulations to Scottyoh and David (again). Both had earned the Ohio patch by clearing previous redcoat targets.

This was followed by the Third Strike and the Saturday call to Action.

Sunday started the same as Saturday - constant rain with some heavy downpours mixed in. We reviewed the safety rules and the POI's from Saturday. Rifles were brought to the line and the Sunday morning Red Coat was shot.  It was very encouraging.  We had 13 of 17 at 100, 7 at 200, 2 at 300, 3 at 400, 3 joining Daniel Morgan's crew. No one cleared the Redcoat.

We confirmed zero's from the day before and performed some NPOA drills, followed by a practice AQT and then broke for lunch with Cactus Jack presenting Sam Whittemore.

During the afternoon we crowned 1 riflemen. David overcame some previous frustration with a very respectable 219, and then backed up his effort with a 216.  Rifleman Scottyoh requalified with scores of 230 and 214

The weather window of more rain was closing in, so we ended the day a little early with the Sunday afternoon Redcoat.  We had 14 of 17 at 100, 10 at 200, 5 at 300, 6 at 400, and 7 joined Daniel Morgan. We had 4 shooters clear the target, 2 repeats and 2 new members. Congratulations to Jake and Sean for getting their Ohio patch.

Special presentations of "The Road to Rifleman" certificates and the "Lest We Forget" patches were awarded to our youth shooters Nate Younkin and Nathan Pennington. Congratulations!   ^:)^

I want to thank the Central Ohio Coon Hunters Association for allowing Appleseed access to their fabulous facility. Without clubs like these, we have no program. Also, I would like to thank my instructors Cactus Jack, Chevyshooter, Blackbird, AKA, Meadow, and Mannik.
