What a GREAT weekend at the Piqua Fish and Game to commemorate the historic events of April 19, 1775. Warm and sunny days blessed the Ohio valley after an unusually cool start to spring. We had twenty-two shooters filling the line on Saturday to learn marksmanship and history. Eight were youth shooters aged from eleven to fourteen; it was great to have so many young people join us.
Two cleared redcoats began the day, congratulations to Darold and Pat. The layers of instruction and compelling presentations of the three strikes filled most of the day. We shot one official Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT), and had one new Rifleman, congratulations Pat K. with a 214 score. Also, three shooters re-qualified, Darold with a 217, Robin with a 222 and Scotty with a 219.
Scotty issued a challenge to those who cleared their morning Redcoat to shoot the same target in the evening, and if it were again cleared he would send them a special patch of his own design to commemorate the feat. Darold accomplished the task and Pat was so close, with only one shot slightly off the mark.
Sunday morning's sunshine brought twenty-three shooters to the line to continue the festivities, all of Saturday's shooters returned plus one, who had commitments on Saturday. Three cleared redcoats began the day, and all 23 shooters had their rounds in the 100-yard silhouette. No one needed sight adjustments so we immediately went into some drills. The ball and dummy drill brought out some issues to be corrected, and the natural point of aim drills helped drive home how to find NPOA.
There were an impressive number of re-qualification scores shot; Trunk Monkey re-qualified shooting a bolt action with a score of 212, Michelle D. shot a 213, Pat K. reconfirmed on every PQT and was striving for the elusive distinguished rocker, he was so close with a high score of 237; Darold's high score was 234, and Scotty had a 227.
Our fun shoot was targets posted at one hundred yards with teams of four shooters on each assigned. They were given thirty-five seconds to send twenty rounds to their targets, the team with the most hits was to be the winner; congratulations to our top team with over sixty hits! We also broke up the AQT grind with a four minute Rapid Fire AQT; everyone enjoyed the challenge.
All good things must come to an end; we finished the day with the Red Coat target. In Ohio we give a special state patch to those who clear the Red Coat, I put three in my pocket and went to the line to check targets; after a quick look, and with a happy spring in my step, I went back for more patches; five shooters cleared the evening Red Coat! All three shooters who cleared morning targets had accepted Scotty's challenge, and all accomplished their goal, with six rounds through each silhouette and two through the square, amazing shooting gentlemen!
Our instructor crew did an awesome job, thanks go to Chad, Chieflane, Doc Willi, Shadow870, WildBillCody, Dangerous Old Lady-"DOL", Jingo, Mac and Steel-Man.

Looks like another great event at Piqua. Way to go team. Corvette
One more family photo from Piqua
Shep is a great photographer as well as instructor. I think this one tried my kids patience more than any other event. They were quite unhappy with me taking their scopes away, and shooting clean misses in stage 4 was getting on their nerves Sunday. I don't enjoy seeing them fail but we will stick with it. Michelle finally eeked out a 213 but we are going to get new eye exams and come back next year to show you we can all requalify with irons. Thank you for putting on such a great event.
What a great group. It was a pleasure to get to know new faces and see those who came again for the Appleseed instruction and experience. I hope to see you all again in Piqua soon.
It was a great weekend. Thank you all for putting on such a great event. Hopefully next time I will get the Distinguished rocker.
