My thanks to everyone who made this event so enjoyable! A full line of fifteen Appleseeders, many of whom were first-timers, made lots of happy, freedom-loving noise on the range. If the temps were ten degrees cooler it would have been the perfect Appleseed. The heat made us proceed slowly, so we had no AQTs on Saturday and seven on Sunday. Four students were affected enough by the heat to miss Sunday. I hope we will see you on a more comfortable weekend soon.
Safety was excellent with muzzles always in safe directions, and students listened carefully and applied each lesson as instructed to the best of their abilities. This resulted in two new Riflemen: Christof with a 225 (with a 2MOA red dot sight at that) including a 98 on Stage 4, and Alan with a 214. Both also cleaned a Redcoat for the first time. All along the line, groups shrank and scores rose throughout the weekend with several shingles perforated.
The Natural Point of Oreo drill on Sunday was a real eye-opener. It's amazing how we can convince ourselves we have NPOA with our eyes on the target; and equally amazing how uncompromising reality is. But if we patiently work on the details of our positions and test NPOA in dry fire practice, we WILL get that NPOA locked in and then it's like riding a bicycle - unforgettable forever.
Thanks again to MattNH, our sponsoring member at Pioneer Sportsmen, and to the club for its support of Appleseed.
