What a great weekend we had at the Cardinal Shooting Center. The Cardinal range is a huge shooters paradise along I-71, just north of Columbus, Ohio; they have about a mile long strip of trap shooting facilities with fifty-two trap houses, a sporting clays range, multiple rifle ranges, fourteen large pistol bays and massive campground facilities.
We had a total of seven shooters that participated in the pistol clinic, all were experienced shooters that had been to multiple rifle Appleseeds; this helped the instruction go smoothly and a bit more rapidly.
We had three new Pistoleer™s on the first Pistol Qualification Test (PQT), a score of 210 or more out of 250 points are needed. Dan (NavyShooter) qualified with a 224, then re-qualified several more times before earning the Distinguished rocker with a 232 on Sunday. Rob M. shot a 222 then continued to shoot above 210 with his 9MM on all but one of his eleven PQT's. Corey D. earned his patch with a 220 and also re-qualified over the weekend. About mid-afternoon Saturday we noticed storm clouds moving in and radar confirmed that we were going to get wet; with a quick change of plans we hastily shot a Red Coat and packed up for the day as the first drops started falling. It proved to be a wise move as storms passed through the rest of the day.
Sunday morning was beautiful with mild temperatures, allowing us to shoot our opening Red Coat then work on drills to improve marksmanship in comfort. Congratulations to NavyShooter and Bradley S. for clearing their morning red Coat. The day warmed up, but tents covering the line provided plenty of shade, while frequent breaks helped everyone stay as fresh as possible.
Our fun shoot was three teams of two, with each shooter attempting to place two rounds within ten different sized circles; only hits in the black counted. Time limit was forty-five seconds. With thirty-two hits in the black, the prizes went to the father son team of Drew and Rob.
We had one more Pistoleer™ patch awarded early Saturday afternoon to Terry C. scoring a 212. IIT Black Bird re-qualified in the afternoon with a 216. Black Bird was also awarded his 10 shoot pin at this event.
On the Final Red Coat of the weekend Rob won an Ohio Patch for placing all his rounds where they belonged; congratulations!
Thanks to AKA, Navy Shooter, and Corvette for their assistance with the event. It was a fun weekend spent with great people!

I agree with Shep, great Pistol clinic event. And, again, I proved to myself that I suck with a pistol. The best that I could manage is a 182. I guess it will be like my path to Rifleman (it took me five weekends to get that right) and I just have to keep working and keep coming back until things finally come together.
To all the new and re-qualifying Pistoleer™s, congratulations. Well done all. To Shep, AKA, NavyShooter, great job running a smooth and fun event.
And to Cardinal Shooting Center, a big thank you for hosting the event.
Huzzah!!!
