Next to April 19th, I can think of no better day to conduct an Appleseed than July 4th!
4 students showed up to learn basic rifle marksmanship, and the history surrounding the events of April 19th., 1775.
After the traditional registration and safety brief, instruction started. The basics of rifle marksmanship including steady hold factors, sling use, and the 6 steps to firing the shot were covered. Unfortunately, after shooting the opening redcoat, 5 squares, 10 shots in cadence, and an afternoon  redcoat target, the sky opened up on us. The "First strike of the match" was gone over, and Navion gave an excellent rendition of what led up to the colonists of Massachusetts taking up arms against the tyrant ruler of england. After checking the weather radar, it was observed that severe thunderstorms were heading our way. It was decided to cut instruction/shooting short, to give the participants and instructors a chance to pack up and travel home safely.

Sunday started wet, but soon dried out, and we were able to proceed with a review of the basics, as well go over new info that we didn't have a chance to go over the previous day. Subjects like Natural point of aim, transitions from standing to sitting/prone, and the course of fire for the AQT were gone over. The known distance portion was presented, with topics like "come-ups", estimating distance, target detection, wind estimation and effects, uphill/downhill shooting, knowing the DOPE on your equipment was stressed. The second and third strikes of the match were presented, as well as some dangerous old men and women. Lunch was at 11:30, and we started shooting at noon.
1 new rifleman patch was awarded, as well as one re-qual earned.
At the end of the weekend, the range was restored, and a personal note from John Adams was recited.
All stated that they enjoyed their weekend, and learned about both rifle shooting, and the history of our nation!

Paula, AKA Mrs. BBQBANDIT, with her RIFLEMAN qualifying target! She scored a 210 exactly, and was supposed to be anointed with North Bridge water, but BBQBANDIT missed the target. He got DSB Mal instead!
I think he needs a remedial course in target identification!

Your ever-loving shoot boss for the event jumped in during the AQT grind, and shot an AQT for effect.
Not to brag, but an un-zeroed rifle, shooting ammo new to the rifle, and seriously out of shape. Barely managed a 210, but still not a cook!
That North Bridge water sure was cool!

IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING, THE CADRE AT QUARRYVILLE IS WHAT MAKES THIS WORK. THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND DEDICATION TO DUTY IS MY INSPIRATION TO KEEP THIS PROGRAM GOING.
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEPTEMBER!

Congratulations, Paula!  Nice job.

Funny, but BBQBandit seemed to have a lot better aim at the Pistol Clinic a couple of months ago.    >:D

I had to make a snap decision... should I or shouldn't I. Long story short... I would be driving home with her. The result... Dsb Mal was the only safer option. That's my story... and sticking to it.
