Title: Orwell, OH Pistol Clinic June 26-27, 2021
Post by: EZ3 on June 28, 2021, 07:46:05 PM
It was a hot, humid weekend in northeast Ohio, but the gentle (and sometimes brisk) breeze off Lake Erie kept things from getting oppressive.  Orwell Gun Club lived up to their usual high standard as gracious hosts, including volunteer help for target scoring and a lunch buffet on Saturday.

Over 70% of the students were women, and their attentiveness to instruction was excellent.  Almost all the students had previous experience with pistols, and their marksmanship started at a relatively high level and generally improved through the weekend.  The previous experience allowed us to move quickly through the preliminary Points Of Instruction and the safety briefing.  After instruction and a few drills on fundamentals we moved into more advanced subjects, such as shooting controlled pairs, performing efficient reloads, and transitioning between targets in a rapid-fire string.

Marksmanship on the Pistol Qualification Test was generally very good, with almost all students frequently shooting in the Sharpshooter range.  Only one student earned her Pistoleerâ„¢ patch.  Marie posted scores of 215, 210 and 220, as well as several Sharpshooter scores.  Struggle also shot well all weekend, coming Oh-So-Close to Pistoleerâ„¢ with a 208.

In spite of some equipment malfunctions and maybe some disappointment with scores, a good, safe time was had by all.

What a great event this was. So thankful for the shade trees on the range here at Orwell. It would of been brutal if we were out in the sun all weekend. this was my first pistol clinic event and what a great course of instruction this was. Once again a big thank you to EZ3 for border raiding again to Orwell.
