We had gorgeous early summer day to host a 1 day Rimfire KD event (the inaugural event for Michigan!) at the Watervliet Rod and Gun club. Our shooters were all experienced Appleseeders who had prepped themselves and their rifles to have a productive day learning the nuances of shooting at distance.
Congratulations to our 4 who achieved their RFKD Rifleman tabs - Scott, John, Chris and Jenna. Pete and Steve - you are right there...a few less mechanical issues and you'll be over the hump.
The learnings were huge for all, both with how to cram all that information into a single day, but also understanding our bullet drops and wind compensation. For those keeping track, all but one of our shooters was using high velocity .22LR ammo. Come ups were:

100-->150 yds | 10 MOA ave |
150-->200 yds | 12 MOA ave |
The way this range is set up, from 0-100 yards is very protected from wind, 100-200 is exposed to a north or south wind. During the afternoon, the wind picked up to about a variable 10-15 mph Full Value wind. When shooting Stage 3, POI was moved ~6-8 inches/~4-5.3 MOA (50 yards of wind exposure) and at Stage 4, POI was moved ~12-14 inches/6-7 MOA (100 yards of wind exposure).
Thanks to our fabulous instructor crew, including Oz, Fidget, MI-Copperhead and Applecore Merlin33 and Lancelot. We heard history of King's Mountain and the Overmountain Men and Timothy Murphy. Sorry to Fidget for not getting to hear about Daniel Morgan...next time!
