Title: AAR Coshocton, Ohio May 29&30, 2021
Post by: Corvette on May 31, 2021, 10:25:34 PM
We had a great Appleseed at Coshocton Gun Club near Coshocton, OH this past weekend.  We had ten shooters show up Saturday morning looking to work on their skills.

We started the weekend with a welcome, introduction to the goals of RWVA and Project Appleseed, and our normal safety briefing.  This was followed by bringing rifles to the line and we started the event with the Sat morning Red Coat.
Results were not impressive.  We had five of ten put three rounds in the 100 yd target, 1 at 200, 1 at 300, 1 at 400 and 1 joined Daniel Morgan's rangers.

We moved to the points of instruction (POI).  The steady hold factors in prone were presented followed by the six steps and NPOA.  Drills were shot after each POI and we shot some sighter groups in anticipation of IMC.

We broke for lunch in the clubhouse so the shooters could warm up and the first strike was presented along with IMC.
When we returned to the line, sight adjustments were calculated by the shooters and applied to their rifles.  Several confirmation groups were shot and we moved on to steady hold in seated and standing with related drills on our Green Coat targets.

We then moved to shooting a practice AQT and ended the shooting part of the day with the afternoon Red Coat.  Scores improved dramatically.  We had all ten of our shooters at 100, 7 at 200, 4 at 300, 1 at 400, and 3 hit the shingle.  Three joined Danial Morgan.

We did a combined Second and Third strike at the end of the day along with a call to action for the shooters.   The day ended and we broke down the line.

Sunday dawned like Saturday, overcast, dreary and cold.  All the shooters returned for day two not deterred by the weather.  The morning Red Coat showed improved results.  We had 11 of 11 shooters at 100, 8 at 200, 5 at 300 3 at 400, 6 joined Daniel Morgan and several shooters were just a shot away from a cleared Red Coat.

After an NPOA drill, we moved on to the AQT grind.

We shot five AQT's on Sunday with great results.  We had four folks shoot the score on the first AQT. Congrats to Mark (210), Melia (214), Matt (215) and Jenna (215). Mark got his baptism with holy water from the North Bridge with the award of his patch.  It was truly impressive that both Mark and Jenna shot the score on their very first AQT.  Huzzah!!!

It was also my pleasure to award Melia her patch as she has attended several other events and has worked very hard to achieve the score.   Congrats.

We had a KD lecture at lunch and returned to the line for more AQT's.  We had two more qualifying scores.  Congrats to Denton on his re-qual score of 219 and to DoubleSchott for his re-qual of 232 which was the high score for the weekend.
We broke up the AQT grind with a team challenge.  Congrats to Team Revere for shooting a 79 out of 80 on the challenge to win the event.  This was followed with the final AQT and the Sunday afternoon Red Coat.  Results showed that the shooters had definitely improved their skills.  We had 9 of 11 at 100, 7 at 200, 6 at 300, 5 at 400, and 1 hit the shingle.

We closed the event with another call to action.  It was another great Appleseed at Coshocton Gun Club.

My thanks to the shooters for having a safe event and to the Instructors (SirBob, HikerMatt, AimbotV2, Camo Cowboy, Schottzy, NavyShooter, DblSchott) that helped with the event.   Also, my thanks to the Coshocton Gun Club for hosting us again.

I had every intention of posting the pictures I took -- turns out my lovely wife beat me to it... All of my pictures have already been posted!

Picture posting rights aside -- I couldn't agree more. It was an amazing weekend.

- It was awesome seeing my wife qualify as riflewoman on her first attempt!
- It was awesome seeing my kids improve dramatically!
- It was awesome to see my own shooting improve. My 210 will likely be the score that I remember forever, I've had friends offer me something to drink before but that was unique. The 211 follow up was fun but likely won't stand out for the long haul.

It was awesome spending the weekend with everyone. Learning, shooting and having a great (and safe) time!

We are looking forward to going back.

Skifire,

It was our pleasure to work with you this past weekend.  I am really disappointed that I didn't get photos of your "baptism" in the waters of the North Bridge.  I didn't know it was coming and I wasn't prepared.  In any case, please come back and join us again. I was truly impressed that both you and Jenna shot the score.  That is really impressive.  And, if you join us again, I can then start working on both of you to take Orange Hats and step up to join the Ohio Appleseed team.

We need great patriots like both of you to help us bail out the boat that is America.  Huzzah!!!

Thanks for the great comments and I look forward to our next meeting.
