To all the attendees,
What a great Appleseed we had this past weekend at Tusco Rifle Club, New Philly, Ohio. We had 8 motivated shooters show up ready to work on their Marksmanship skills. The weather report was not good. Rain was projected for all of Sat and into Sun morning. But, we got lucky. It was overcast on Sat but we finished the day before the rain began and it quit before we got started on Sunday. So, once again, I have to say God maybe has a soft spot for Appleseed.
The shooters all arrived on time and we proceeded with the welcome and the safety briefing. Rifles were brought to the line and we moved on to shooting the morning Red Coat.
The results were pretty good. Of the 8 shooters we had:
5 who put all three rounds in the 100yd target, 3 at 200, 2 at 300 but none at 400. Nobody hit the shingle and we had 0 who cleared the Red Coat.
After the Red Coat, we moved onto the instructions on the Steady Hold Factors in prone, the Six Steps and NPOA instructions. These were followed by related shooting drills to allow the shooters to apply the instructions.
Sighter groups were shot and just before lunch we presented IMC to work with the shooters on calculating their sight adjustments. We then broke for lunch. After lunch, the First Strike was presented.
We returned to the line, made sight adjustments, shot confirmation groups and had a second session of adjustments and confirmation group shoots.
We were then able to move on to instructions on the steady hold factors in seated and standing followed by related drills. The Second Strike was told at our afternoon break and we then returned to the line for the practice AQT followed by the Saturday PM Red Coat. Scores were impressive and showed great improvement. We now had 7 of 8 at 100, 6 at 200, 3 at 300, 2 at 400 and 2 joined Daniel Morgan.
The day ended with the Third Strike and a Call to Action for the shooters.
Sunday dawned partly cloudy but the rain had stopped so we were in good shape. We opened the day with a review of the safety rules and the POI's. Once we were back on the line, we shot the morning Red Coat.
We had grown to 9 shooters as one of our great Instructors, Birdman, joined us to spend the day shooting with us. Results were impressive. We had 7 of 9 put all three rounds in the 100yd target, 4 at 200, 5 at 300, 4 at 400, 5 joined Daniel Morgan, and 4 cleared their Red Coat. Congrats to Birdman, Dave, Rob, and Les on your cleared Red Coats. All were awarded their special Ohio Appleseed patch for clearing a Red Coat.
After a trigger control drill and an NPOA drill, we moved on to the AQTs. We shot three AQT's before lunch and the Rifleman train started. We presented the KD lecture just before lunch and returned to the line for more AQTs. We had 8 qualifying scores. Congrats to our Riflemen.

We shot the Sun PM Red Coat early so that there would be time for shooters to work at distance. We have 300 yds available at the Main Range at New Philly and we wanted to let our shooters have a chance to bring out their centerfires and work at distance. The Sunday PM Red Coat showed great progress. We had 8 of 9 at 100, 6 at 200, 2 at 300, 4 at 400, 5 joined Daniel Morgan, and 2 more cleared Red Coats.
Once the folks that did not want to stick around for the distance work were removed from the line, we posted two steel targets set at 100 and 200 and full size paper targets were set at the shooter discretion. We spent the rest of the afternoon working with the shooters at distance.
The weekend came to a close with some final comments by me and a thank you to all the remaining shooters for a great weekend.

I wanted to thank everyone for a great weekend, especially Corvette, Meadow and Birdman.
Corvette and I now have something in common - it took both of us until our 5th Appleseed to earn a Rifleman patch.

One of the core principles of Appleseed is that Riflemen persist. I was pleased that you earned your patch with me at New Philly. And what a great patch it is. Wear it with pride and remember, your next step is to do it at full distance at one of our KD's at New Philly and hey, who knows, maybe there is an Orange Hat in your future.

How many rounds should I plan to bring for that?
Only Birdman gets an explanation for shooting a 236! ;D

You should plan on around 400 rounds total. We will be shooting sighters at each of the ranges (100-400) on Saturday and each full distance AQT will be 50 rounds. We have a fixed target line and moving firing lines at New Philly and we shoot 20 rounds at 400 yards to equate to doubling stage 4. So assuming 5 AQTs for the weekend plus sighters plus work at 600 yards, you are looking at about 400 rounds.
