Title: Bunnell, FL April 17-18, 2021
Post by: 9mm4545 on April 19, 2021, 07:00:54 PM
Our Patriots Day event was soggy, but successful as eleven patriotic Americans braved the weather to practice the fine art of rifle marksmanship and to reconnect with their remarkable history and heritage. In a bid to both conserve precious ammo and to improve our shooting prowess, extensive use of dry practice was employed and, not surprisingly, the results were quick to appear when live fire was begun. Intermittent rain and a very wet range did not seem to matter and complaints were noticeable by their absence. These folks are tough!

By the end of our first day a new Rifleman was revealed as Chris turned in winning targets. On Sunday he only got better and is very much a man who knows what he is about. Well done, Sir!

Our newest Applecore volunteer, Cheyenne, was a complete beginner but still managed a very respectable Sharpshooter score by the end of the shoot. That I would call real progress!

Across the board we saw great improvement and I have to believe Isaac Davis, looking down from Heaven, would have approved heartily.

A huge thanks goes out to the instructors who made this event happen. Spending a weekend in pouring rain teaching and helping fellow Americans better themselves shows serious commitmentâ€"but we were richly paid for our efforts in the results of our students.

If anyone remembered to take photos, let's see ‘em. In the meantime, practice perfectly, keep your powder dry, and let your aim be true.

It was actually a lot more than rain. In all the events we've done over the years, we have never seen this.

The students really engaged with the history, asking questions and asking where to find more stories. Big huzzah! Very impressive centerfire score @229 by new IIT HenryBowman369. Cold bore and zero warm up. He figured he better "git ‘er done" as Cheyenne, a new shooter,  was movin up fast with a high score of 184. 😆

What a fantastic weekend!!  Despite the weather , the instructors ran a great training session!  I am so glad I did this and will be telling everyone who is interested in improving their marksmanship, this is a course they need to do. The instruction was spot on and if you simply take the time to listen, you will learn something and improve your shooting skills.

So glad I heard about Project Appleseed and spent the weekend to get to know this great organization and great people within it! Great stories, great lessons, great safety oversight and despite the extremely soggy conditions - so much fun! Will definitely be back to move my score and marksman proficiencies up and work towards that elusive Rifleman's badge. :F
