Title: Piqua, OH AAR October 24-25, 2020
Post by: Shep on October 27, 2020, 07:40:41 PM
We had a wonderful Appleseed at the Piqua Fish and Game. It's an honor to have so many wonderful people spend their weekend with us learning about our heritage.  The weather was chilly, especially on Saturday, but that didn't hinder the 23 Patriots that filled our line to capacity.

The rifleman skills were taught and the history told, we shot the first scoring AQT Saturday afternoon and had one new Rifleman, Greg B. He shot an impressive score of 240, which also earned him the title of Distinguished Rifleman, congratulations Greg!

Sunday brought great weather for shooting. After morning reviews by ChiefLane, we moved on to an exciting day of shooting. An exercise of carding the sights and rifleman's cadence greatly improved the groups.

As we got into Sunday's AQT grind, we had four more shooters join our team of Riflemen and write their names on our roll of honor. Michael H. shot a 226, Tyler F.  scored a 214, then reconfirmed with scores of 215, 220 and 221. Russ J. earned his patch with a 218, and Joe H. shot the infamous 210 score, which earned him a baptism with "The waters of the North Bridge".

There were a number of re-qualifying scores shot by Todd F.  229, 237, 214, 228 and 233. Nicki F. also reconfirmed, shooting a 223 with a .223!

A team pumpkin shoot was held Sunday afternoon. Shooters were divided into six teams; each shooter had twenty rounds and thirty-five seconds to do as much damage as possible. The team with the least amount of pumpkin left was the winner, congratulations to team two with an impressive victory; I never knew pumpkin parts could fly that high into the air!

The Red Coat numbers were very impressive, especially on Sunday afternoon. Most folks are normally rather tired and its not unusual for scores to fall a bit by the last Red Coat, but not this group of hardy Americans! We were down to 17 shooters on the line by the afternoon but the numbers were: 14 shooters scored at the 100-yard simulated target, 13 at 200, 7 at the 300, 7 at the 400, and 6 cleared the Red Coat!

We had a number of Appleseeders who were shooting very well and were close to a rifleman's score. I'm sure with some dry fire practice and a little time at the range they'll earn their patch at the next Appleseed.

We're very delighted Todd, Nicki and Greg have each accepted an Orange Hat and taken on the commitment of Appleseed Instructor In Training. We're also pleased to announce that WildBillCody has been promoted to full Instructor, Congratulations Cody!

Thanks go to our amazing crew of instructors, Coyote 217, Rattlehead, Doc Willi, WildBillCody, ChiefLane, and Naga.
