The bad weather forecast from a passing hurricane didn't dissuade 10 shooters from coming out to try and earn their KD tab at the final event of the year for Appleseed at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. Boy did we get some rain!!! The good news is that rain isn't an issue at TMP except getting from the car to the line. The facility, especially the covered firing lines, and electronic targets is spectacular.
As usual on Day 1 at TMP we covered a 3 hour classroom block on trajectory and environmental factors. We then moved to Range 2 (100 yards) and shot a few sighters and then 4 rounds of stage 1 followed by a class on range estimation which we didn't get to practice this time because of the monsoon-like conditions we would have had to endure at the UKD range, which is not covered, at TMP.
Day 2 the activity moved to Range 1 (200, 300 and 600 yards) to shoot stages 2-4 of the FD AQT.
The old Wreck had the privilege of awarding the first KD tab of the weekend at lunch to my son Adam who was celebrating his birthday that day. He shot 43/50 with a borrowed rifle and ammo. Huzzah Adam!https://flic.kr/p/2jWDny7 (https://flic.kr/p/2jWDny7)
By the end of the day half the line had qualified KD out to 600 yards proving that we have men among us who know very well what they are about.
