Eight instructors got together out at the Pikes Peak Gun Club to take a look at the new Appleseed Pistol Program. The original event had to be cancelled when we lost the range but Black Russian was able to arrange a bay for us out at the PPGC along with getting us reduced range fees for the event! On top of all that, he built the target frames and backers we used. Needless to say, without Black Russian, no event would've taken place.
Everyone showed up early to help set up and we completed most of instruction before lunch. The day was cool and the afternoon was filled with attempts to make the grade against the Pistol Qualification Test (PQT). Again, the shooters saw that the rimfire pistols made for an easier job in managing recoil but also suffered from reliability issues. Everyone shot extremely well and everyone was scoring from 180 to 206 and in the hunt. One shooter, Zuke, scored a 225 and got his patch using his rimfire and then switched to his centerfire to qualify again! That was some nice shooting! We also had Codefogey and Caleb.Hahn work the trigger and get the 210 and a hard-earned patch. Before we could give them their dose of water from the North Bridge - the skies opened up and we all got soaked pulling down the line.
It was a great day and the front range is ready to put up some pistol events when we manage to get some more instructors checked out. Congratulations again to Zuke, Codefogey and Caleb.Hahn!
I only had a chance to get a couple of photos but I'll post them as I get caught up. If anyone else has any photos or comments or suggestions, please chime in!
Was this an instructor certification clinic or just a pistol introduction clinic? How many pistol instructors do you now have in your area?
Great job of applying IAO!
This was an introduction clinic. We only have 1 instructor in this part of the country and that is the esteemed Captain!
Sounds like it was a good event, Hopefully they can make the TtT in Cheyenne in October.
Hey CokeGuy, we're limited for active pistol instructors at the moment and this was an event to introduce the program to our local cadre (just like in Laramie, WY two weeks ago) and hopefully get folks prequalified for the Train the Trainer (TtT) in October. And lacking a qualification, all the participants will have the tools to practice skills in preparation to qualify at the TtT!
There's also a little more of a detailed response here (https://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=59002.0) (on the IAAR).
More pictures were promised but I only had time to take these few. Hopefully someone else captured everyone out getting their "pistol on".
Beautiful drive to the range before sunrise

Overall, we had a great event and still managed to get a lot accomplished before the afternoon downpour put a halt to the festivities. Every shooter either patched out or was seriously "in the hunt", some with scores only a few points from the mark.
Hopefully, some of the participants can post any comments or suggests and pictures.
Also, a reminder - the Train the Trainer event in Cheyenne on October 10-11 still has open slots! This will be another opportunity to qualify, but more importantly, it's the only method currently available to become an Appleseed Pistol Instructor. I hope to see you all there!
This was a really fun shoot; always nice to hang out with fellow instructors.
Black Russian really has earned the credit for making this shoot possible, and Captain gets the credit for the initiative in making these two pistol intros available to cadre. Thanks!
This was a really fun event. Thanks so much to Captain for the excellent instruction, and for Black Russian for coordinating the range and building the target frames. Attached are a couple of pictures I took.
Here is another picture.
