Wow, what a great Appleseed at Tusco Rifle Club near New Philly, OH this past weekend. We had 18 shooters show up Saturday morning looking to work on their skills.
We started the weekend with a welcome, introduction to the goals of RWVA and Project Appleseed, and our normal safety briefing. This was followed by bringing rifles to the line and we started the event with the Sat morning Red Coat.
Results were mixed. We had 12 of 18 put three rounds in the 100 yd target, but only 3 at 200, and not much after that. But it's just the start of the weekend so we did not panic.
We moved to the points of instruction (POI). The steady hold factors in prone were presented followed by the six steps and NPOA. Drills were shot after each POI and just before lunch, groups were shot for IMC. We broke for lunch which was in the main clubhouse and the club did their usual great job with the lunch spread. Burgers, dogs, baked beans, chips and two huge chocolate chip cookies we available to the shooters.
CWCDL79 presented a great First Strike at lunch, and we returned to the line to continue our efforts.
Back on the line we presented the IMC (Inches-Minutes-Clicks) POI and shooters calculated their adjustments based on the sighters shot just before lunch. Sight adjustments were applied to their rifles followed by our first confirmation groups. This was followed by a second set of sight adjustments with another confirmation string.
We then moved to the steady hold factors in seated followed by several drills. The Second Strike was presented at the afternoon break by Devilkitty and we moved on to the steady hold factors in standing. Drills were shot and we ended the shooting part of the day with the afternoon Red Coat.
Dramatic improvement was shown. We had 12 of 18 at 100, 8 of 18 at 200, 5 of 18 at 300 and 4 of 18 at 400. We had 4 folks join Daniel Morgan and we had two cleared Red Coats. Huzzah!!!! The day ended with a third strike and a call to action by Corvette.
Sunday dawned sunny and pleasant and all the shooters returned for day two. The morning Red Coat showed good results. We had 11 of 18 at 100, 9 at 200, 7 at 300, 5 at 400, 8 joined Daniel Morgan and we had 2 more cleared Red Coats. All the shooters who cleared their Red Coats received their Ohio Appleseed patches to recognize their success.
We then completed an NPOA drill on a green coat target and moved to the AQT grind.
We shot three AQT's that morning but we didn't get anyone over the Rifleman threashold. We had some good scores but it just seemed that the entire line was snake bit. The time pressures of the AQT and equipment issues were holding back our shooters.
We had a KD lecture at lunch in the main clubhouse and the shooters enjoyed the leftovers from Saturday plus extras from our instructor pot-luck dinner from Saturday night. This included stuffed cabbage, salad and a couple of leftover bratwursts.
We returned to the line to shoot two more AQTs. Again, we had four or five folks "on the porch" with a couple knocking on the door with scores in the low 200's. But we just could not get anyone over the hump. Many of our shooters showed they had the ability but they just needed to relax and get out of their own way, shoot by the numbers and let it happen.
I hope to see all of you at a future event.
Early in the afternoon between stages on an AQT, one of our youth shooters commented that the way I gave the "Fire" command made him think of me as a Pirate. To my surprise, several of the other shooters near us agreed. So I guess I need to start referring to myself on the Appleseed forum as "Corvette, Ohio SC and an "Appleseed Pirate". ;D
We then shot the Sunday afternoon Red Coat. Results were strong and consistent with the morning Red Coat. We had 17 of 18 at 100, 9 at 200, 4 at 300, 4 at 400 and 4 joined Daniel Morgan.
We closed the event with a presentation on CMP and what it offers to shooters, followed by a final call to action for the shooters.
My thanks to all the shooters for having a safe and fun event and to all the Instructors (Lil Dragon, DevilKitty, BamaFan7, cwcdl79) who helped with the event.
Also, my thanks to the Tusco Rifle Club for hosting us again. Huzzah!!!
I hope to see all of you at a future Ohio event. I have Rifleman patches waiting for all of you. Remember that a Rifleman persists, never gives up and recognizes that a Rifleman's skills are not easily attained. See you all soon.

Come on folks, let's post some pics.

This weekend Appleseed was so wonderful. The people made the event. This was our first Appleseed, and on top of developing some mad rifle shooting and safety skills, I feel like we became part of a community of God-fearing Patriots, willing to call upon one another when needs arise personally and nationally. Looking forward to becoming a bit more involved with this organization and earning that riflewoman patch!
Such a great experience.
Thank you volunteers. :F
We got a couple pics and a video that we will post shortly.
Huzzah! what a great weekend at Tusco! thank you to all for coming out and spending your weekend with us. Skills were vastly improved during the course of the event, just persist, perfect practice, and come back again. So many knocking on the door, just a little more work and you'll break on through! I hope to see you all along the trail.

:partytime: ^:)^
Seriously wish I was there; looks like everyone had lots of fun.
A splendid event at Tusco; even the heat, humidity, and freak lightning strike next door couldn't get y'all down. :)
Great working with you all, instructors and students alike. I know some headed home a bit frustrated, but I hope you also left inspired.
Some advice for all our shooters: persist! Empty the room of ammunition, then:
- Get your rifle out
- Sling up
- Build your position (you remember the steady hold factors, right?)
- Dry fire a dozen or two shots a day "by the numbers."
Don't skip steps! Take your time and do it right: the speed will come. It'll really pay off the next time you join us on the range (ask me how I know...).
Looking forward to another trip to the "sunny side" of the state line soon!
Thanks to our instructors for an amazing event. I got to train and learn with some really cool guys and gals from all over the state. Also, I have already got two people interested in joining an Appleseed in the near future. Once the kids are able, they are definitely coming too. They would love this!
Looking forward to the dry fire practice and hopefully having a functioning rifle next time (my fault on that one).
If anyone is on the fence on signing up, don't hesitate. It will absolutely be worth your time and effort. The stories that are shared, the people you meet, and the instruction you receive will be top-notch.
I didn't take many pics, was too busy learning. Hope this helps.
