Title: Ames, IA AAR August 8 & 9, 2020
Post by: Ames on August 09, 2020, 11:10:54 PM
Ames Izaak Walton League played host to a sold out Appleseed clinic this weekend.  We had a great event with a great group of shooters -- 20 in all.  Everyone worked hard at improving their skills with a rifle.  We saw tremendous results, gaining six new rifleman (great job Cody, Taylor, Kyle, John, Tara and Chad!) and one re-qualifer (great job Reid!).  Several Appleseeder's were scoring very high and are well on their way to achieving that expert qualification.  Keep persisting!

Saturday was a beautiful day, if not somewhat on the warm side.  Breezes helped quite a bit.  Sunday started off great weather-wise, but reached the low 90's and 98% humidity by the afternoon.  Lot's of water was consumed.

We had extra spectators on Sunday when several fawns wandered onto the range, completely unafraid of the lead flying down range.  We had to call a cease fire at one point and chase them away.

A huge thanks to the instructor crew for their hard work and tremendous presentations and coaching.  We were blessed to have nine instructors on hand!  Thank you all!

John set a very good example of working hard, persisting and demonstrating a can-do attitude.  Riflemen persist in all things, whether in marksmanship or in affairs related to liberty!

The other thing I noticed is that with each Appleseed event he attended, his rifle had new improvements applied to it.  Things like a cantilevered scope mount to give him adequate eye relief and an adjustable cheek riser that made his rifle work for him.  Small, economical improvements; nothing flashy required.  Again, the same can be said of our efforts to maintain our liberties and rights for future generations.  Each generation needs to be diligent to put in the work to preserve these freedoms;  nothing flashy required.

Twenty shooters on the line? How do you do it! One of these days I'll have to come out and see.
