We had a great weekend in Fleming Georgia at the 17 South Rod and Gun Club. Two weeks before the event there was no shoot boss and five shooters registered. By the day of the event Tennessee Beast had joined the Old Wreck to travel to the Savannah area near Fort Stewart where 10 patriots came out on a very warm south Georgia weekend to sharpen their marksmanship skills and hear stories about what was so important to make our forefathers do what they did. We were also blessed to have IITs Overmountain, Evoempire and M developing their skills to advance in the instructor ranks.

The focus on Saturday was on fundamentals; zeroing the shooter, then the rifle. To say the shooters made progress would be an understatement. On the morning Red Coat the had 400-0, 300-2, 200-0, 100-0 and 2 hit the shingle. By the end of the day we had 400-2, 300-2, 200-0, 100-2, 5 (out of 10) hit the shingle, and one cleared it. The most impressive Red Coat to the old Wreck was turned in by Doug who shot an M1A battle rifle with irons all day.

Day 2 started with some review and more stories of Dangerous Old Men. We shot the first AQT just after dinner (that's what we call the noon meal in the south) and the first Rifleman score of the day was turned in by Captain Dan who was accurate enough to get baptized with water from the North Bridge. Two AQTs later he shot a score of 223 he says "just doing exactly what you told me to do." I love a teachable attitude.

We had one more Rifleman, Doug, who qualified with the M1A with a very respectable 216. Here is another man who knows very well what he is about.

We had several shooters who were knocking on the door but didn't quite get in this time. I predict we will see them at the next shoot at 17 South in August.
Thanks to all the instructors and shooters who gave up their weekend to come out in the south Georgia heat, and gnats, to hear the message and hone the shooting skills out ancestors had in abundance.
See you next time.
Ramblin' Wreck
