Title: AAR Marion Ohio May 16&17, 2020
Post by: Corvette on May 18, 2020, 11:35:23 AM
It was really great to get back on the line at our Appleseed at Meeker Sportsman Center near Marion, Ohio this weekend. eighteen motivated shooters showed up ready to work on their Marksmanship skills. The weather was predicted to be iffy but we had partly sunny skies and mild temps as we started the weekend.

Once all the shooters had arrived, we completed the normal welcome and moved to the safety briefing. Rifles were brought to the line. To help with our social distancing, the shooters were divided into two groups so that we could spread folks out while shooting.  The Saturday morning Red Coats was shot and the results showed we had work to do.

We moved to the steady hold factors in prone, followed by the six steps and NPOA instructions.  Related drills were shot and the morning moved on to shooting sighting groups and an IMC presentation.  We broke for lunch where we enjoyed a First Strike.  Shooters returned to the line after lunch to continue their work.

Final sights adjustments were made and confirmation groups were shot.

Next steady hold instructions in seated and standing were presented and were followed by related drills. The Second Strike was presented by Crazyduckhunter at our afternoon break and we returned to the line for more position drills.

Since we were running this as a Patriot's Day event, we conducted a Patriots volley on Saturday afternoon.  It was inspiring to honor the names of our forefathers who gave their all to found this great nation.

The day ended with the Saturday afternoon Red Coat which showed some improvement.  This was followed by a Third Strike from CWCDL79 and a call to action to all to get active in their local communities.

Sunday dawned much better than was expected.  The predicted rain was not present.  The morning Red Coat was shot and the results continued to improve.  We moved to our practice AQT to orient folks on the specifics of each stage.

We followed this with two AQTs, shot in flights, before it was time to break for lunch.  There were a number of good scores but none that made it to the magic 210.

After a KD lecture at lunch, we were back on the line for more AQT's.  More good scores were shot but still, we did not have any of the shooters hit the magic 210.

The group finished the day with a the Sunday Red Coat and more improvement was demonstrated.

Our thanks to the Meeker Sportsman Center for hosting our event and my thanks to CWCDL79, Rattlehead, wetsight, and Crazyduckhunter for helping with this shoot.  It was a pleasure to work with  each and every one of you.

We look forward to our next event at Meeker.

Shooters, feel free to post your comments and pictures.

We were given great spring weather and we put it to good use with a great group of shooters. It was particularly encouraging to see several young shooters with their parents.

Thank you to Corvette, CWCDL79, Rattlehead, wetsight, and Crazyduckhunter for their targeted instruction, patience and their orations of our patriotic heritage. I will be back, not sure if I can get to Coshocton or Newark. Looking into a sling or two and maybe a Ruger 10/22.

Enjoy the photos!

Thanks,
Mark Holman

We had a great time and learned a lot! We would like to thank everyone involved time and dedication. I think my son Rader is hooked and we are already looking forward to another shoot at the Henry Co. Club in July.
