Title: Youth Model Air Rifle?
Post by: wetsight on April 03, 2020, 10:46:09 PM
Does anyone make a pellet rifle with a youth stock? I would like to find something for my 7-year-old that fits him.
Thanks!

Yes, I'm looking for something with a LOP of 10 -- 11 inches.

I've had my eyes out for the same thing since I've been running a 4H juniors smallbore / air program, at least I was until the Wuflu hit.

Mark's suggestion is the closest you're going to get AFAICT.  Or find something cheap from garage sale / craigslist / Nextdoor and butcher the stock.

The length of pull on this BB gun is the shortest I have seen: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Daisy-Buck-BB-Youth-Lever-Action-Air-long-gun-177-Cal-BB-Wood-Stock-Blue-Barrel/19341880

I am sure the quality is not the greatest, but for the price, it's disposable. And I can have it delivered to my doorstep.

Take a look at cmp's daisy 853. Nice single shot pellet rifle. Very accurate. Adjustable lop

The used 853s at CMP look like an excellent deal.   O0

Should be very accurate for the price with reconditioning.

The 853 is an excellent piece of kit but HEAVY!  Even cut down (yes I did it) it will be too heavy for the average 7 year old.  (I bought one for each of my four children in 2012 and they got me through the ammo shortages of 2013-2015.)

Crosman M4-177 is excellent, WORKING peep sites, adjustable length of pull, light weight.  My daughters is painted purple.

Check Pyramid air and other places as well.  Buy at least 3 extra clips.  Yes you need to pump it 3-10 times each shot but it is easy and I used 5 pumps for 10m.  For 10m reproduce our targets at 40% to have them to scale.

If you have airgun or teaching youths questions ask or PM me.

Have fun!

Charles, thanks for the recommendation. I ended up purchasing a Daisy Buck, but have a few complaints. First, it's made in China. Second, I'm almost more accurate when throwing rocks. Third, the trigger pull is about 15 pounds and a mile long, approximately. I do like that it's lightweight and the 11-inch lop fits my son well.

The Crossman M4 is intriguing to me because of the adjustable lop--I assume I can adjust it down so it fits him, while I can shoot it too. I also like that fact that it has a rifled barrel and shoots pellets, which will be much more accurate than BBs.

My only two goal at this point are to teach my sons basic firearms safety and to get them interested in shooting. For that, I don't need a super accurate firearm, but I need something that is very shootable. The Daisy's awkward grip and it's heavy trigger make it difficult for my son to shoot without yanking the trigger. If he never hits anything, shooting will get old quick. I think his small hands will be able to get a better grip on the M4 pistol grip.

All that to say, I'm ordering a Crossman M4-177 and I'll get back with you on how it goes. Oh, and the Crossman is made in America.
