"Through dry-fire training, the Soldier practices this position until he assumes the same cheek to stock weld each time he assumes a given position, which provides consistency in aiming. To learn to maintain the same cheek to stock weld each time the weapon is aimed, the Soldier should begin by trying to touch the charging handle with his nose when assuming a firing position. The Soldier should be mindful of how the nose touches the charging handle and should be consistent when doing so. This position should be critiqued and reinforced during dry-fire training. I have an AR set up for Service Rifle competition that I truly enjoy shooting. I have become a huge fan of the nose to charging handle method, especially for standing and sitting.
Somehow or other though, in prone, it seems awkward. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or in that position I haven't figured it out yet.
Sounds like a good topic for more research at home and on the range!

If your length of pull stays the same you need to significantly change your body's angle relative to the rifle's line for things to feel right. Think about your neck length and how that has to be accommodated by changing your body angle to place your head in a comfortable position. If you get the angle wrong you end up having to either scrunch or crane your neck to reach the charging handle.
Did a lot of work on my prone position and have this nose to charging handle thing figured out. I just needed some position work at home and some time on the range.
