I sewed up a prototype for an idea that's been kicking around my head since I started instructing. We get a lot of students who don't have rear sling studs on their rifles. The solution has been to make something up using zip ties. I had a better idea and was able to finally find the right hardware, so I threw it together. Yes, I know my stitching is ugly, it's a prototype. O0
Improvements for the next one:
Get some 1" Velcro instead of having to double up the 5/8" stuff I have.
Order of operations changes to make it go together better.
Build up the stitching around the sling mount itself for extra strength.
These pics are on my 10/22 demo rifle stock, but it should fit most rifle stocks.

I like it. Where did you get the "H" buckles/tri-glides?

Amazon. (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HQTJW7) They're the 1 1/2" ones. The webbing is 1 1/4" polypropylene.
Just finished sewing V2. I came up with a better way to attach the sling mount that should be much stronger. I basically doubled it under itself with a channel in the middle, if that makes sense. I also picked up some 1" Velcro.
Stitching is better, but some things are still crooked. Professional seamster, I am not. ;D
If anyone is interested in making their own I can send over a materials list, cut list, and instructions.

Very nice, I'll take 2 Thanks! LOL
That looks like it will be super useful. I also like the color choice (so you have a chance to get it back) :)

You know how I roll, you've seen my sling swivels. ;)
What is the overall length of the strap end-to-end when the little back strap is not attached? There are a bunch of pre-made straps on Amazon that could be easily modified to create these and possibly cut costs. You can get them in 1" wide x 18" long for about 90 cents each. Sew on the butt strap, add the J hook keeper and voila!
A possible modification, should there be a v.3
Can your machine sew through 3 layers of webbing? Make a loop to hold the h buckle rather than a patch. The buckle would lay directly against the stock when in use. It might make for an easier construction process. Just tweaking (and soon stealing) a great idea.
V3. This is probably the final iteration.
I went with narrower 1" webbing. It is also thinner, which allows it to conform to the stock better. I also used a different ring for the foldover area. I used the old webbing for the H buckle holder so it would be stronger.

It's about 15". Most of the conch straps I've seen on Amazon use plastic hardware and I wanted to go with metal. Cost isn't really an issue, the total cost of each is around $1.70, hardware included.
Alright, V4.
I saw The Wolfhound's suggestion about the loop after doing V3 and it's the perfect solution (can't believe I hadn't thought of that). This is the final version. The only other change I can think to make is to use more aggressive Velcro, which I'll have to source somewhere.

And here's a flat pic to show the construction before sewing the last bit.

It looks really good.
My only suggestion for more universality is to not sew the sling loop webbing (the orange webbing) onto the wrap around (yellow) webbing. Instead leave it as a separate piece that the wrap around webbing feeds through.
That would allow the assembly to fit any butt stock with the metal loop always on the off side of the stock up high and the sling loop centered at the bottom of the stock.

I would worry about the loop sliding. When using a hasty sling, for example, there's going to be some sideways pull on the loop that might cause it to slide around the stock and end up on the side.
That said, Your idea had me try it out on a larger stock (AR A2 style) and the Velcro barely meets, so I'll probably add an inch to the overall wraparound length. Thanks for the idea.

Makes total sense!
Just saw this thread. Looks good. I do a field expedient version of just this thing using 2 sided Velcro. Here are a couple pics of what I end up with. Sometimes I need to add a second loop of Velcro around the butt to keep the assembly from rotating around the stock.

We live to serve. You executed my thoughts exactly in V4.0
V5. This is the one, boys. I'm done.
Some more length in the wraparound section, and wider, beefier Velcro.

Can't believe I didn't think of Velcro roll. I'm an IT guy and have a literal crate of the stuff.
I don't have equipment to make my own so I'd gladly pay your price plus shipping for three units. Just need info for mailing a check or PayPal.
