Title: San Antonio, Texas AAR June 22, 2019
Post by: GenX Minuteman on June 27, 2019, 10:17:07 PM
Our one-day event in San Antonio turned out to be one full of eager new shooters and a semi-cooperative weather pattern.  The early part of the morning found all of the incoming shooters picking 5lb mud clumps from their shoe soles in an attempt to stay clean.  Oh, how that quickly changed as soon as we got rolling with our first course of fire.  Everyone's thighs got a workout from the additional weight of clay coated boots/shoes hiking back and forth to the target line.  Luckily, the weather improved and the mud problem had dissipated by noon.  During the early courses of fire we did have 3 cases of rifles accidentally digging into the mud.  Our highly alert RSOs quickly took action and cleared the obstruction before any dangerous action could take place.

We had three families who were kind enough to bring their sons, daughters and grandchildren out to the event.  For this, we are eternally grateful!  The younger generation is very important in maintaining our freedom which was won by the brave men and women we speak of during our history lessons in Appleseed.  Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to enlighten them with regard to this nations struggle against tyranny while at the same time teaching them the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship.

With so many new shooters, as well as this only being a single day event, there was a significant amount of information provided with a restricted time period for developing everyone's marksmanship.  There was certainly a large improvement throughout the day in all participants.  We were able to squeeze in 2 AQTs at the end of the day, but no one was able to reach Rifleman status.  As pointed out earlier, this was a truncated event with a lot of learning packed in, so this is to be expected.  There was however a ton of potential talent in all of the new shooters!  They all continued to improve throughout the day.  Hopefully, there will be future opportunities for them to advance their new found skills and reach Rifleman!

Thank you everyone for an amazing shoot!

Pale Rider,  Thank you very much!!!  I am lucky to have great Shoot Boss teachers, excellent Appleseed role models and a ton of support!  Thank you for all of your help getting me here!  Now it is my chance to take some weight off of your shoulders for the San Antonio area events!
