This was my first trip to Monroe Sportsman's Club, and it is a beautiful location for an Appleseed. Our gracious hosts provided lunch (for a donation) both Saturday and Sunday. The spacious clubhouse provided a place to dodge a thunderstorm Saturday and to get out of the rain for a while Sunday.
The thunderstorm Saturday actually parted and passed us on both sides, but waiting it out and dealing with various equipment issues slowed our progress and prevented us from firing an AQT. We made up for that on Sunday, rain or no rain, completing seven. In the process we discovered two new Riflemen: Ben, with a high score of 228, and Desire, whose high of 240 earned her the Distinguished patch as well. And then there was Calvin, a veteran Rifleman, who shot so many Distinguished AQTs I lost count.
Calvin, Desire, Eric and Lisa each cleared at least one Redcoat, and Eric had three AQT scores over 200 but not quite "Rifleman grade".
Finally, a tip of the hat to our junior students: Nate, Rylan, Glenn, Quintin, Michele and Eric for doing a great job on the firing line. Hope you all had a great weekend and come back again with friends!
A great big thanks to the membership of the Monroe Sportsman club. Without great gun/sportsman clubs like this in our great country AppleSeed would not survive. We cadre of the AppleSeed program greatly appreciate your hosting of another wonderful two day event giving us the opportunity to pass along the marksmanship skills and the history of our founders. Thank you.
So wonderful to see the returning shooters and to meet those who joined us for the first time. So glad that the very ugly weather passed us right by. See everyone the next time on the Appleseed trail!
