I am truly blessed to have spent an amazing weekend with this group of Appleseeder's at the MGAR. We are lucky that the Manatee Gun & Archery club has been a stalwart supporter of Project Appleseed since 2008.
Patriots one and all. These men, young and old, that came to Myakka City did not have to be taught persistence. It was solidly in their DNA.
Thanks to my counterparts on the fine job they did Redfeather, Cyberguy, Savage22 and your most excellent son. I wish you could have left your boy with us :) he has the eye of a born Rifleman.
The weather was Florida Perfect I just wish we has more Patriots on the line with us.
Stuart, Michael, Ian, John, LJ yall are excellent riflemen and you made the Founding Fathers proud of your efforts to be true citizens of the Republic. Remember your 6 Steps especially 6.
The fact that most of you are newer shooters and everybody scored above 150 on the AQT shows well on your efforts.
Considering that everyone was using New or borrowed rifles tell all who have ever shot an Appleseed how much effort you put into the weekend
John extra special thanks to you for the fine BBQ lunch you made for all of us. Though after some consideration in hindsight the extra girth we all acquired because of lunch might have affected our shooting......just a little. John I have no doubts that you are a Rifleman. Special thanks for bringing LJ your 8 year old son, he is a gift.
Speaking of LJ he made everyone at the shoot proud, not only because of his comport but because of his ability on the range. This was his first time shooting anything other than a BB gun. Though small in stature he showed huge heart. Loading, Bolt manipulation, Mag Changes, Timed Stages, Safety, Trigger Work, 6 Steps, NPOA he was just plain excellent.
Starting off with a 68 on Saturday and Sunday went even better and better, even though struggling with mag changes because of 8 year old hand strength/size which hurt his score on stage 2 and 3.
His effort ended well, despite dealing with a mean old ShootBoss who wouldn't give him the 30 cal rule.
Oh his score you ask?......... 211.........a Rifleman at his first Appleseed. A rare thing indeed.
Just to make sure it stuck he was Blessed with the cold water from the North Bridge. His Dad and Grandfather (Me) are very proud of that young Citizen... ^:)^ :F :1luvu ;D
Thanks to all that attended. Truly a amazing weekend.

BBQ? Did someone say BBQ? THar was no BBQ at my event! Did I miss a memo? :wb:
Yes BBQ.........And yet the whole state went over to your shoot.... I believe voodoo or 'sum such devilry was involved here Mr. Dawson....I will have an investigation.
We had a couple good looking instructors (not me of course)
^-^ O0
Yea but what you didn't have is probably the youngest person to qualify Rifleman in this state at the ripe old age of 8 1/2, at his first 'Seed.
Maybe the youngest nationally But I think Polonius boy Will was younger up in NC.
Wow! A "unicorn" for sure! :~
Congratulations LJ! What an amazing accomplishment! We are all proud of you!
