Title: KD on the new electronic target range, VETS Shooting Center
Post by: Quinncannon on April 23, 2019, 06:54:54 PM
What a fine day for KD in north central Arkansas! ArcEagle14 and I were invited to shoot KD on the new electronic target system, (similar to CMP Talledega) at the Vets Shooting Center and shoot enough rounds to see if there are any bugs in the system. Shooting with one of the owners of the range, we did just that.

First, after set up, we shot the NRA High Power MR63, which is an 18 inch aiming black. We shot a match just like in High Power, 60 rounds for record, with 2 sighters per stage. All three of us shot it well, with some excellent scores.

Next, we posted a KD AQT target, all shot at 300 prone firing position. We decided to count only hits in the 5 ring for points on the 400 stage, rapid fire at 300 as normal. We did not shoot the 100 or 200 today. Shooting went very well, no surprises!

This new target system will be quite an asset for Arkansas Appleseed, looking forward to our first "official" KD!

By the way, if anyone would like to shoot with some ol' Appleseeders on KD or the reduced course, just contact us, we'll likely saddle up and meet you at the range!

Quinncannon, out.

FYI, There's a KDC scheduled for Sep 28-29 at Palm Bay. We have the 600 yard Silver Mountain electronically scored range all weekend. Camping is available on site with 30 and 50 amp electric. Water is non-potable. Master Instructor PHenry is the Shoot Boss. Sign up in TIPS. Come on down!

Thanks for the invitation, but we meet our KD shooting needs very well here! We will be moving our targets to 600 yards as well, this is primarily going to be for High Power competition, but the shooting center will be hosting KD shoots at the normal ranges as well.

The 300 yard shooting I posted about, was mainly to validate that the system will work.

We shoot a lot of steel here from 300, 400, 500 and 600 yards on a weekly basis. The new electronic scored targets are portable and will be set up at any distance we want, but with an emphasis on High Power.

Is that system able to hook onto a single target frame? I can't tell, but it looks like it can be smaller & more flexible than the bigger electronic systems I've used. Do you remember the make & model of the system?

The system can be moved from target frame to target frame, four sensors, one on each corner of a target. Has to be zero'd in by firing one shot on to the target, then the sensors are aligned with it. After that, firing can be conducted as normal. It requires an online connection. Even out in the country, it never dropped service. From the firing line, an antennae is set up to pick up the feedback from the target to the scoring tablet.

The brand name is SOLO, I believe. According to the owner, it's quite expensive, not even counting the armored back stop that is set up behind the target frame.
