Title: KD at Vets, 2 April 2019
Post by: Quinncannon on April 02, 2019, 08:19:06 PM
Another great day for some KD shooting at the Vets Shooting Center in Bald Knob, Arkansas! We had a new KD steel target to set up, bought from Rifleman Training Targets in Illinois. This target has an orange flash mounted on it, so when it's hit, the target swings back and the orange flash is displayed, worked very well. We set it up at 300 yards to practice our rapid fire stage and even sitting. The hardware is armor steel too, so no more replacing hanger straps! By the way, the folks at Rifleman Training Targets are Appleseeders too!

On to the shooting! We fired on the new target in rapid fire, already knowing our come ups, meant we had no problem hammering that steel in the prone position and making sure the orange flash worked with our little AR mouse rifles! We had wondered if 55 and 75 grain rounds would swing the steel enough to display the orange flash, we found they certainly will! Now for some 7.62 fire from my LRB M14SA! Yes, the mighty M14 will certainly hammer and make that steel ring and swing!

Shooting at 300 in the sitting position in rapid fire went very well, with many 9/10 hits and 10/10. This is awesome practice to prepare to hit that big ol' target at 200 when shooting an actual authorized KDAQT.

We practiced on other steel as well, we shot the 400, 500 and 600, a lot of fun to be sure.

Next week, we plan on shooting reduced AQT's, even though we like KD best, the AQT is challenging and fun as well, most of the shooting will be with centerfires.

As usual, we extend an open invitation to other Appleseeders, we have a good range to fire on with plenty of good targets. If in need of some coaching to hammer that KD steel or the reduced AQT, we'll be glad to lend a hand and even a rifle, if needed!

Quinncannon, out.
