Title: Gainesville, FL March 30-31
Post by: Minutemom on April 01, 2019, 10:41:20 AM
It was a beautiful weekend at Gainesville Target Range, and 13 patriots eager to drink from the fire hose of instruction showed up early Saturday morning to do just that.  The morning RedCoat showed that there was much improvement to be made, so we got to work with steady hold factors in prone, the 6 steps to firing the shot, and NPOA.  Groups started tightening up as we worked on carding the sights early in the day.

The history lessons were spectacular, and it was evident from the shooters' faces and nods that the stories of our shared heritage resonated deeply.  Cold Warrior was able to show us all exactly what the colonists were up against with his replica Brown Bess - very impressive.

Special kudos to our three young patriots, 11 yo Tess, 12 yo Liz, and 16yo Aubrey for sacrificing their weekend in order to improve themselves and learn a little of the history of our great nation.

Congratulations to all of the shooters for their patience, persistence, and incredibly teachable attitudes, which manifested in much improvement throughout the day on Saturday.  I'm only sorry that I could not be there on Sunday to witness the further improvements that I'm sure occurred.  I will let ScubaSteve chime in on that.  Thank you Steve, for taking over for me on Sunday!

Keep practicing what you learned this weekend, and I sincerely hope to see every one of you on the line again!

Thank you so much to the awesome and dedicated instrucors, who all drove multiple hours in order to be with us this weekend - ScubaSteve, Cold Warrior, and KawGirl.  Your hard work, and the attitudes and hard work of the students, made this shoot a resounding success!

It was truly a great weekend in Gainesville. The group on Sunday proved that a "Rifleman will Persist" By the end of the day several people had bandages on their elbows with one having a bandage on both elbows. None the less when I asked if everybody wanted to stop or shoot another AQT all hands went up for more shooting.

Aubrey (16 Years old) who told me she used to shoot when she was younger but not in years, turned in a high score of 174. Linda, Don, and Alan all turned in scores of over 180 and Hunter who was so close with a score of 206 before fatigue started setting in. You guys are so close. I hope to see you on the line again soon so I can give you that Rifleman patch.

Many others showed great improvement and great scores on the AQT as the day progressed.  You all did wonderful. The red coat target is probably the hardest target we shoot. On day 1 in the morning only one person hit the Shingle shot. In the afternoon on day two 5 of you hit it.

Simply outstanding.   Thank you all for coming.

How fortunate we were to have wonderful weather and wonderful Americans all weekend!
:F

It was an honor to join the Gainesville crew, and help with so many eager shooters.  O0
I sincerely hope we see many of those students back on the line soon.

Howdy folks!

This is the Man in the Straw Hat. Thanks for letting me join. And thanks for a great weekend!

I had not shot a box of rounds from a rifle in more than twenty years since I married so it felt great to be back in the swing of things. You all were a great group of folks to spend a weekend with. Sure glad the rain held off until today!

My oldest daughter (and *maybe* my youngest) has said she wants to do an Appleseed, and one of my friends as well, in November so I will be back with company!

I need to ask a favor, I got caught up in retrieving my scored targets so forgot to get my CMP form from ScubaSteve. Could one of the instructors please mail the completed form to me? The address I registered with is good. Thanks much.

See you all in November!

Dunross (Alan)

That should not be a problem. Appleseed does greatly limit access to personal information so I can't get to it because Chris was the shoot boss of record. Between her and I we should be able to get that in the main to you. If not I will reach out in a private message to get it over to you.

Fun was had by all !!

Chris "framed" the first strike by adding an introduction. I can't recall it being told like that and I liked that a lot. I wish I could have half of Chris' bubbly energy. :)
Dave brings so much heart in all he says and does.  <3
I like Steve's instructions. He explains things in a simple understandable way (and he let me shoot his Garand,  my first time ever. I may have scored rifleman; but now, I FEEL like a rifleman!! )
I enjoyed being line boss and it was well worth the 3 hour drive to see so many 1st time Appleseeders all having fun. I know they were having fun because at the end of the day we asked if they wanted to do another AQT and the answer was a resounding "YES!!"

Hello all,

It is I the fat old guy wearing a railroad hat in the chair. AKA Aubrey's Dad.

This was my third visit to an Appleseed shoot, I attended first as a shooter several years ago over on the GTR 100 meter range but firing form down around the 75 meter mark and laying in the Sun! Next I attended with my chair and did not shoot as my underaged son shot the course about where this past weekend's class was at but before the current improvements.

So sitting for Aurbrey let me see the classes spread out over several years as a former public school teacher and NRA Instructor I must say I have been impressed by the quality of each of these classes and by the levels of instruction that in each case took new or very inexperienced shooters to the same level of marksmanship as the average Infantryman during my service but in a single weekend!

Can I write a run on sentence, or what?

Thanks to all who made this a great weekend for my daughter.

My one regret is that Aubrey has announced that if I plan to "build" another LTR rifle from the scoped rifle that was in her case, that I should make it for myself as she wants to keep MINE that she shot with this past weekend!

She plans to (High school band schedule allowing) attend the November shoot and try real hard for her Rifleman patch.

You ARE going to let her keep it, right, Dad?  ;)

Aubrey, you go girl!  You did great this weekend and if you keep at it, you WILL earn that patch!!  I hope to see you in November!
