Greetings,
Our club has 5-6 wood stoked 10/22s that need some work for Appleseed loaners. We have already put swivels, slings and scopes on the 5 we are currently utilizing for classes, but now looking at upgrading the last 5 or 6. I posted under another thread asking about the UTG/Leapers sub-compact rear sight as a cheaper option to buying Tech Sights.
So, I'm also inquiring if anyone has any industry connections for optics going to a non-profit organization? I've currently got discounts with Brownell's and DSG Arms and am hoping we could cut a good deal for 5 or 6 decent 4X or similar optics. Any ideas or contacts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
EERT
You should be able to get Vortex optics at a discount due to Appleseed affiliation. They claim 40% off MSRP. However, on something like a Crossfire II 2-7x32, you're looking at about $22 less than Midway. And Midway gives you free shipping, which you wouldn't get direct from Vortex.
I don't have any help for your question but would suggest using the cantilevered Volquartsen rail so shooters will have the correct eye relief without having to scrunch their neck.

I believe EGW also makes the same product and is usually less expensive.

Change the stocks to the Blackhawk this will give you a proper LOP for your shooters without an expensive mount and has swivels mounted. As for scopes your basic 4x fixed power straight crosshair. I've put fancier stuff on my loaners and it just lead to knob twiddling and wacked scopes. Have switched to your basic cheap NC Star 20$ for 2 years. Works fine, kids have'nt been able to break them and if the do manage to trash them it's only a Jackson.

I knew there was another one. Couldn't remember the name to save my life. Thanks!
It looks like the Volq. is two additional cross slots longer which would add an extra half inch (or more) to the cantilever.
I did help a buddy mount the EGW a year or so ago and the one thing I wished was that we could have moved the scope forward a little more.
Here he was with it at an Appleseed last fall.(https://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=54288.0;attach=155944;image)
That photo givs the sense of the scope being just a little too far back for a relaxed turkey neck and proper eye relief. I think if we'd have gone with the Volq. I could have gotten the scope perfect for him.
That may of may not be an issue with other scopes and shooters.
I agree that if you're up for spending yet more money to make it perfect get the Blackhawk Axiom stock. The pistol grip and collapsible stock allow it to fit anyone from an 8 year old to a tall man.
One of the things I have done is to use the NCstar base with Techsights.
The NCstar Weaver base has an additional set of holes with the proper spacing for the ft receiver.
You then use the remaining hole to use as a guide to tap the receiver.
It makes it a extended mount. Now it is 3 screw base, instead of 4, but I have had 0 problems in 5 years.
I believe UTG now makes a similar base but it is a pictinny.
