Sorry if this has been asked before, but can anyone direct me to the Best Current Source for web slings for my next Appleseed?? For both the AR & the 22 trainer??
Thanks, Bill
I've had this asked of me a couple of times as I deal with all the Appleseed e-mails. Here are some sling links

I don't have experience with the exact sling above, but I have experienced sling slippage with the Nylon slings- I personally recommend the Cotton variety, as it is less prone to do this. (Its also more comfortable)
Cheaper than Dirt - Pg 30 of the January catalog
M1 Garand Sling - tan canvas $11.97
usafe7ret
The tan canvas slings just look right on an M1. I've bought several of them for that purpose.
The DPMS cotton slings are sturdy, but they're a bit shorter than others: mine measures 41". They're OK for LTR's and M4-type AR's but they're too short for a 20" AR.
the DPMS slings seem to be out of stock everywhere (DPMS is backed up on everything right now with the sudden increase in demand for evil black rifles). The sling I just bought for my 10/22 is this one from Midway: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=966254
It is an OD cotton web M1 sling. At $13.99 the price is a little higher than some you guys posted, but hey, its in stock and it works, feels, and looks great. It doesn't say in the product description whether it is cotton or not, but it is, and I like mine a lot. It looks good on a 10/22! With some tech-sights, that rifle is going to look a lot like an M1 carbine.

Hey OD,
^5 I totally agree O0
Although mine is not on an M1, but an M1A. I love it with the Walnut stock. I also have a tan sling on my Savage.

Back on topic, I received an email from DPMS with the Tracking number for my 20 slings, which are on the truck.

Thanks also for the info. For a newbie, I'm awfully old; the last time I bought stuff from CDNN they didn't have a web site.
Hmm, a lot of the slings are out of stock, is everyone stocking up? : )
DPMS is still shipping slings within reasonable time.(7-10).
i ordered 2 from here http://www.northridgeinc.com/m1_garand.htm (http://www.northridgeinc.com/m1_garand.htm) they were $9.95 but they have 3 or 4 different ones aswell as on their m14 page.
Maybe I'm missing something, but when I borrowed a GI sling for Appleseed, it had a metal clip hook on each end. All these slings for sale only have one clip.

Standard web slings have only one spring clip. Sometimes shooters "cheat" and put one on each end so you can remove the sling from the rifle and leave it hanging on your arm. It's a little faster, but not necessary. A web sling or a 1907 style sling in its standard configuration will suffice.
Hello Group; We use an extra sling clip on the forend sling swivel for a few reasons and its NOT CHEATING.
They are available from Numrich gun parts for .95c each when you order ten. It is faster to leave your sling on your arm between stages when loading mags AWAY from the line. It is easy for newer folks who are learning all they have to do is snap back on the rifle. And the big one, chicks dig the sling on the arm, trust me. The Slings can also be had from Numrich new and used the used ones clean up good enough for loaners, I like newer stuff on my own gear. Order a bunch pick the best and sell the rest. Pappy
I was wondering where that extra clip went....... ;D

It looks like they still have them available.
Genuine M14 nylon slings for $7.50 each.
This is a good price Appleseeders.
These slings are good for the long barrels(M1 Garands/M1A's) and everything else, AND, importantly, are built to last, as they are nylon.
IMHO, these are the best slings for practical field purposes because, again, they are built to last.
brett out.

Item No. 537280 "U.S. Military Sling Hook"
unless Antibubba get's a better discount than I do it's $1.10 each or $1.00 for 10 or more dealer priced ($1.25 if your not set up.)
For a buck per, I'm ordering 10. I haven't found any in the Sac area, so if you're interested in one, let me know.
I just bought my first one off of Ebay, they seem to have a lot floating around there.
Folks,
I contacted DPMS yesterday about the availability of their MI Garand slings. I had placed an order with them a month ago thinking I would be o.k. for the appleseed coming up next week since Midway indicated "out of stock - backorder o.k.". I was told their supplier has quit carrying them and that they will no longer be available through DPMS and by extension DPMS's downstream vendors.
Not a great situation, but I remembered that I had ordered one from Fred a number of years ago and was even able to find it today!
Mort
By way of clarification, I did not intend my post on DPMS slings to be a slam on them or the slings in any way. I was hoping to save others some time and frustration if they were waiting as I was. They were very professional and as helpful as they could be in the circumstances.

I bought 3 from Numrich arms @7.25 per 1. nylon military adjustable.Just last week, and they shipped them fast.

you can tell the big appleseed is coming, because all the cotton/canvas web slings are sold out everywhere! I want one for a new LTR I just put together, but if I can't find one it can always borrow the one off my center fire.

I ordered 3 of these, based on this recommendation and they arrived in less than a week. I really have not looked them much since I already had a sling on the rifle I will be using. They did have a nice "camp" smell that reminded me of the canvas tents in boy scouts.
If you haven't seen, The Appleseed Store (http://www.appleseedstore.flyingcart.com/) has recently added USGI nylon slings.

I am really disaapointed with the slings mentioned above. The problem is that the clips are not steel as claimed, but are cast iron. Given how tight the tab is one cannot slide the web through the top clip because the end anti-fray metal piece is thicker than the clearance provided by the top adjustment clip. I ever-so-slightly pryed the two tabs on the clip and one of them snapped off. It was cast iron, steel would not have snapped. I will be mailing the broken piece back to them and respectfully requesting three replacements, one for each of the units I purchased.
In reference to this post, the clip nearest the center of the picture is the one that broke.

Update:
I showed sling #3 to Franktown Kid and he thinks they are not cast iron. He was able to pop the strap through the middle clear area of the clip, solving a problem by a different approach than myself. That is why he is the instructor and I am not ;)
I've got a bunch of those slings.
They aren't cast iron, but that clip is spring steel (which is also brittle) and will break, when stressed enough.
Now, mine have no problem with one layer of the web going through those clips, and you really should be running them that way.
any idea on how to open up the spring clips a bit? Heat?
It requires a screwdriver for leverage to get it off the back ring on my AR - I was thinking it would open a bit with use but it doesn't seem to be doing so.
Pop the strap out through the middle. Kind of hard to explain without a picture. If you can't pull the end of the strap through due to the stopper at the end, then about a foot from the end, bend the strap around its long access and wedge just the strap out from between the two tabs

I just take a larger screwdriver, when they are new, and pry them open a bit til they slide off the sling keeper.
When you have them in place and tension on them, they will not come off, but when you WANT it off, it will slide off with minimal effort.
I take the sling clip off the backside, and re-assemble with it on the front. arrange the sling where the clamp is facing towards you when installed. That way if you need to adjust it while in place, you just reach up, pull on the end of the sling, which unlocks the clamp. Adjust to length, and reclamp with the same hand.
When you reach a cease fire, you just unclip from the front sling swivel, and leave the sling hanging on your arm. I set the clip up so it clips back on from underneath (clip up).

The screwdriver always worked with the DPMS slings - but I picked a GI sling up off the appleseed store and it's more challenging. I'll try to be more "persausive" (I read someone here had a clip break and didn't want that.)

I've done that, but with clips on both ends - I use hasty when upright. If you have the uncle mikes QD swivels (my AR does not) you can also remove it that way.
I got my slings from Numrich--am happy with the black--I just found od slings for $8.50 each here http://www.charleyssurplus.com/
