It was a hot, humid weekend at Beaver Valley Rifle and Pistol Club. Nine students arrived bright and early Saturday to join a celebration of American heritage and American marksmanship. Rain showers rolled through occasionally during the day, but the excellent range facilities kept us dry (mostly).
We had a mix of proficient shooters and those who were less experienced, and enough instructors to give focused instruction to one group while continuing to nag the other group about the details that get a shooter from Sharpshooter to Rifleman. The great attitudes and teachability of the students made the weekend a pleasure for the instructors (my spell-checker informs me I just invented a new word, but I'm leaving it).
When the smoke had cleared Saturday we had Mike with a high mark of 227 and two cleared Redcoats, Bruce earning his first patch by matching the high score with 227, Dale re-qualifying with a 212, and Shawn joining the 1st PA Rifle Regiment by clearing his afternoon Redcoat (take, shake, salute).
Sunday was just as hot, both weather-wise and marksmanship-wise. Mike turned his high score for the weekend with a 236, BUT since he brought son Daniel along Sunday, he lost high honors to Daniels 240. Bruce and Dale both turned in several qualifying scores, including Dales weekend high of 227. Mike and Dale both cleared Redcoats. Finally, Mark, who had been flirting with a qualifying score all weekend, closed the deal with a 211!
Congratulations to all of the above for some excellent work behind the trigger! Also, congrats to Andrew, Roland and Nikki for persisting and showing great improvement under some harsh range conditions. And final congratulations to Aragorn, who withstood intense scrutiny from Texas T and myself to pass his Instructor PC.
