Title: AAR Newark, Ohio 9_29 & 30, 2018

What a great Appleseed.  We returned to Dillon Sportsman Center near Newark, Ohio for another shoot.  Sixteen shooters showed up on time with positive attitudes and a desire to shoot better.  After the usual welcome and safety brief, rifles were brought to the line and the Saturday morning Red Coat was shot.  Results were not encouraging.  Out of 16 shooters, we had only 6 with three shots at 100, 1 at 200 and that was it.

We pressed forward with steady hold in prone, the Six Steps to firing a shot and NPOA shooting related drills to practice the instructions.  The First Strike was presented at lunch and we returned to the line to shoot groups for sight adjustments.  IMC was presented, sights were adjusted and confirmation groups were shot.

Steady hold in seated and in standing were instructed with related shooting stages were presented and the drills were shot.  The Second Strike was presented at the afternoon break and a practice AQT was shot after the break.

This was followed by the afternoon Red Coat. The results were amazing.  With 16 shooters, we had 12 at 100, 8 at 200, 5 at 300, 2 at 400, and 6 joined Daniel Morgan with a shingle hit. We had 2 first time shooters clear the Red Coat. Huzzah!

The Third Strike ended the day.

Sunday dawned with great weather again.  Several shooters could not return on Sunday but the 122 that did return were ready to go.  The morning Red Coat results were good. 10 at 100, 4 at 200, 4 at 300, 1 at 400 and 4 joined Daniel Morgan.

After some NPOA/Rifleman's cadence drills, we moved to the AQTs.  We worked through two in the morning followed by a KD talk at lunch.  Three more were shot in the afternoon.  Unfortunately, we made no new Riflemen.  Equipment issues, loose scope bases and the challenges of making all the mag changes and NPOA shifts seemed to challenge the shooters throughout the day.

But all persisted and worked hard with great attitudes through the end.  The final Red Coat showed many have the skills to qualify once they get the process of the AQT down.  We had 10 of 12 at 100, 8 of 12 at 200, 1 at 300 and 400 and 1 who joined Daniel Morgan.  Another weekend with us and several of the shooters will get over the hump.

Thanks to Dillon Sportsman Center for hosting us and thanks to Hammbone, Chewie, Chevy Shooter and Leanne Oakley for helping with the instructions.

I grabbed a few pics which I will try to post, but me and this forum software usually don't get along well when images are involved.

A few things I want to mention:

If you have not seen Corvette's history presentations, try to sometime as they were enjoyable.

Dillon is a cool venue and their onsite manager Will was awesome. He was around all weekend to help out and even had dinner with us on Saturday night.

We were very close to getting a new Rifleman. The loudest AR-15 in the area was run by a nice guy named Mark who shot a 194 late Sunday. He said he'll be back.

All the other IITs were a pleasure to work with. Nice to meet you all!
