Title: Scope Base ID Please
Post by: HammBone on August 23, 2018, 08:39:56 AM
Bought another rifle. It came with scope bases, but no scope and no irons. I'm going to put a Weaver K4 on it and can't figure out these bases. What are they? I've included a photo comparing them to Weaver rings.

In the 4438 photo, it looks like part of that ring is missing ... the part that clamps to the base.

My guess is 3/8 dovetail bases.

Correct. I just held the top part up to show the profile difference.

OK. I googled a bit and found them referenced as being common for rimfire rifles. Will see what Cabela's has after work this evening. Thanks!

The weaver style ring in your hand is sized for centerfire, 7/8" wide.
The bases installed on your rifle are sized for rimfire, 3/8" wide.
So you need either a wider base installed on the rifle, or a set of rings with a narrower clamp on the bottom.

If it was my problem, the wider base on the rifle is first choice. because I like robust scope mounts.

They look like the standard 3/8" dovetail that I usually find on rimfires. There should be a ton of scope rings out there for them. A lot of decent rimfire scope come with the 3/8" rings.  If it's a 10/22 I would pick up a picatinny rail and mounts. There are some good reasonable options. I've started to standardize on that system though.

Rail I just put on a 10/22

Thanks for the reply. You are correct and I was able to find some rings that fit. It is a seldom seen rifle these days that was discontinued years ago, a Thompson/Center R-55 Benchmark. Every part of it is very difficult or impossible to find so I suspected the same for its scope mounting system. Thankfully that was easy. I am going to open up another thread about the rifle to see what information I can gather from this knowledgeable group.
