Title: Tech Sight adjustment tools: retaining & identifying?
Post by: Nashville Stage on July 04, 2018, 05:55:01 PM
The Tech Sight adjustment tools are incredibly handy. They're also small, easily lost, and hard to mark with your name so you can get them back at the end of the day. I've thought about threading some thin rope or a boot lace through the middle as a lanyard to keep it from disappearing, but the rope has to be removed in order to use the tool, so that doesn't really help.

Surely there must be some clever solutions to this. Anyone care to share theirs?

I had the same problem, and then found a neglected stocking stuffer I had lying around.  I use a Nite Ize clippable twist tie, a flexible 3" rubber covered wire.  Easily hooks on and off the tool.  I use a bright color to make it easier to find.

Here's a link.  http://www.niteize.com/product/Gear-Tie-Clippable-Twist-Tie.asp. You can also find them at outdoor stores or Amazon.

You could use a paint pen to identify the tool as yours (also useful for identifying and numbering magazines).

I've gone through a few of those.

I had a buddy with a machine shop drill a hole through the fat portion.  A loop of bright orange 550 cord... and that one lasted the longest.   ;D

The secret to getting loaners back is to take a deposit. I do this for tools, slings, mats....
The only currency I accept for deposit is car keys.
Works really well.

I put a unique color / pattern duct tape on all my loaner items.

They have always come back to me.  Yup, even my Tech Sight adjusting tools.

Get a hole drilled through it. Buy a "Remove Before Flight" streamer from Sporty's, Aircraft Spruce or some other pilot's supply store. Stainless safety wire will work to attach it. Or use whatever works. It will be a conversation piece, won't be easily lost, won't quickly walk off.

I have a one foot length of 1 inch orange ribbon through the center.  I helps me find it in my range bag and is easily replaced after each use.  The material is stiff enough it must be forced out so it stays in pretty well.

the tool is soft steel , placed in the vice a center drill makes short work of making a hole

this is boot lace , fuse the  knot and pull the knot inside both ends still work

the same thing works on the wrench for the chain saw makes it less likely to get lost.

you can get creative in the streamers or flagging you attach if you like.
