All sunscreen and no bug dope.
That is as good as it gets for an Appleseed weekend in Alaska. I scheduled this shoot on Memorial Day weekend as a trial. I knew it was going to be a little controversial, but I could not think of a better way to honor those who GAVE ALL than to exercise the very freedoms they fought for and to pass on that legacy.
We went from 14 registered to 9 actual shooters, we lost a few "sunshine patriots" in the week prior and they missed out on a great weekend.
It was a great weekend with great shooters. We modified the POI to break up the monotony of a very long Saturday safety brief and to put more emphasis on the history aspect. It was well received by the students and the results are very hard to argue with; of an average of 8 shooters 2 were returning Riflemen and 3 became new Riflemen.
The shooters were without exception very dialed-in on both the history and the marksmanship. They gave us exactly what we asked from them, a teachable attitude.
All congrats to: Alaska Riflemen Mike M., Caleb H., and Justin B. Returning Rifleman Jeff M. proved he still can rock a bolt action, and Rifleman Dave A. proved he still has what it takes.
But all shooters left with hugely positive results and attitudes. Smiles were the currency of the day, every shooter wants to repeat and talk of Talkeetna in July abounded.
We did it proud and I was proud to be a part of it.
