Well, we had another beautiful weekend in Piru as we celebrated our National Appleseed April 19th Commemorative Event. We were joined by 19 patriotic Americans and immersed them in marksmanship, history and heritage. After our morning introduction and safety lessons we started with our Redcoat Targets. It was clear that we had a good group as we moved on to the dreaded 1" squares. After participating in the Nationwide synchronized Memorial Volley at 1:00pm, we went on to our History presentation during lunch. Our first and only AQT on Saturday had us welcoming a new Rifleman to the fold. John shot a score of 211. Tom, a returning Rifleman, produced a 226. Russ and Tom cleared the afternoon Redcoat giving us a preview of things to come. Sunday morning we began the day by sharing the April 19, 1775 timeline of what the Patriots were doing back in 1775. After a our morning Redcoat Target and a review on a sheet of squares, it was off to the AQT grind. John redoubled his efforts and produced a 227. He was followed by Russ who posted a couple of 220's followed by Robert who posted a 214. Improvement was shown by all through out the day. At the end of the day Rifleman patches were awarded and John stepped up to accept the Orange Hat of Destiny! After all the recognition, we also recognized Captain John Parker by sharing a letter penned to him by a modern Patriot and then sent our happy attendants on there way with direction to pass on what they had learned and a challenge to bring another back with them to Appleseed. After all was said and done, I think the Founders would be proud of our special weekend in Piru, CA. I hope to see you all again soon. Post your comments and pics here.
Excellent!
John if you have any questions about being an Orange Hat, I am a fairly newly transitioned Red Hat and wore the Orange for about a year, I am more than happy to answer questions. One key bit of advice, if you just print out one PC at a time and only work on that, you'll get to PC 4 and realize you could have been telling the stories that whole time and getting sign-offs. So go ahead and print them ALL out, familiarize yourself with some of the longer-term/range goals and start to work on those soon. Dangerous Old Men (one at a time) is a great way to get your feet wet.
Welcome aboard!
John here.
First and foremost, a huge thank you to all the teachers and attendees alike that came out over the weekend. The historical and marksmanship teaching was superb (as always), and the camaraderie between all the students made it an excellent experience overall. To top things off, the Memorial Volley made all of our lessons that weekend that much more poignant.
I'd like to thank Bob for asking me to join on as an Orange Hat. It's a big responsibility to help carry the torch, but I couldn't think of a better organization to which I'd like to dedicate my time.
Erich! I definitely appreciate the welcoming and the tips! I'm sure I'll be bugging you in the near future once I've digested the initial literature on here. :D
Once again, thanks and looking forward to the road ahead!
