We had an amazing event here in Charlotte for 2018's Patriots Day Weekend.
The weather was beautiful, with highs in the 60s - plenty of sun on Saturday with sun on Sunday morning and overcast skies in the afternoon. We got a bit of a later start on Saturday due to a scheduling conflict with another range activity, but we got started around 1100. The students quickly absorbed the instruction, and we even got 2 AQTs in on Saturday and finished up just past 1800.
Out of 11 shooters we had 4 Riflemen (1 Requal, 3 new):
- Patrick Y.# - 230, 224, 230, 225, 224
- Steve V. - 238, 233, 242*
- Will V. - 246*, 243*, 230**
- Steve P. - 226
# Requal
* Distinguished, Scoped
** Distinguished, Irons
Steve V. and Will V. are brothers who both shot Distinguished- Will first shot a 246 with a scope, then switched to an old bolt action with Irons (and no sling, since it wasn't drilled for sling mounts) and managed a 230 by the end of the day. Steve had a high score of 242 with a scope.
Patrick Y. is considering taking an Orange Hat and is being heavily encouraged, as he would have a great impact for Project Appleseed (no pressure ~~:) ;D )
It was a great, safe weekend. The Three Strikes, DOM Stories and benedictions were well received by the students. The Memorial Volley was moving and sobering, as it always is. All Shooters shot very well, with most who didn't shoot a Rifleman's score shooting high in the Sharpshooter category by the end of the day Sunday.
