Title: Chino Valley, AZ - April 21-22, 2018
Post by: azmule on April 21, 2018, 11:41:51 PM
Midway through our second ever event at the new Chino Valley Shooting Facility!  Great weather, great people, at a great range...  what better way to celebrate the memory of the day that our founding generation "flipped that switch" and went from being British subjects in America, to establish themselves as free and autonomous Americans.   :snipersmi

Full report coming soon - in the meantime, Chino Valley shooters, this is the place for questions, comments, and discussion of the April Chino Valley shoot!

I can say that this was a great event for all of us instructors.  I think the shooters might of had a good time too.    O0

All kidding aside, this was a fun event with great shooters at a great range.  As an instructor it was very rewarding and I'm looking forward to coming back. Chino Valley Shooting Facility has a great atmosphere as measure by their staff and the number of range members who stopped by to just check out that 'Appleseed thing'. I expect to see some of those faces again.

Despite a little wind, the weather was great all weekend.  After drinking from the fire hose Saturday morning all shooters were making progress and asking great questions about the points of instruction. Groups were shrinking and we were moving forward.  Saturday afternoon showed us great engagement with our drills like 'carding the sights' and 'ball and dummy' and our first AQT was had.  Two previous Appleseed attendees got patches confirming they "know very well what they are about".

Sunday morning proved we had a group of shooters who understood the challenge to Persist! Eager to jump into AQT's we spent the day trying all the drills and challenges us instructors had to keep this group challenged.  Soon the afternoon was upon us, we had our Known Distance presentation and two more shooters got their first patch.

I'd like to thank my fellow instructors Scott, David, and Mark for their efforts. A good crew with a good group of shooters makes our accomplishing our mission it's own reward.  :F

Our session with Appleseed was very nice.  The techniques shown us were ones I had learned in the Army over 38 years ago, but in the ensuing years, I have picked up some bad habits.  The instructors were informative and willing to work with each of us individually where and when needed.  I like the fact that they gave us history lessons to go along with the shooting.  I am a genealogy and history buff. I was appreciative of how they incorporated our American history with the need to keep our shooting skills sharp.

There is an Appleseed session planned for the first weekend of June.  Our plans are to attend that session.  In the meantime, we will be finding a place to practice what we were taught and shown during our weekend. Myra

Great time! Great instructors! The hardest part is consistently putting into practice what we're taught. A lot of information is put out in a short time. They found the bad habits I had been making over the years. The techniques work. Three takeaways from this weekend. Number three: practice, practice, practice. Number two: I had fun. And the most important, number one: the first thing Myra said when we got home was "when is the next one?" David

Thank you, instructors, for taking me from a newbie to Rifleman! I'm looking forward to trying a KD Appleseed and continuing my journey!
