What a fabulous weekend for an Appleseed! There was no rain all weekend! 10 Ladies showed up for this Patriot's Weekend Lady Seed! This is the second Lady Seed at this range.
Saturday started a little cloudy but ended not cloudy with the sun shining. We started with the morning welcome, safety briefing then talked about the first strike before getting to the line. We got to work with the morning Red Coat then got to instruction. After learning the prone position, steady hold factors, Six steps to firing a shot, and NPOA, we practiced some NPOA then started on sighting in.
After a set of sighters we broke for lunch. Third Degree gave a great 2nd strike before we were back at it.
After some more shooting Yankee taught us IMC then the ladies were determined to get better groups and rifles sighted in. After some final sight adjustments we talked about some of the specifics of Patriot's weekend and it's significance. We discussed specifics for the Memorial Volley. Everyone present read a bio on a woman from the Appleseed deck of cards as we awaited 1600.
We had the Memorial Volley at 1600, a first for many shooters, instructors and spectators present. After the Volley, we quickly discussed and practiced seated and standing positions. We finished with much improved scores on the AQT and the ladies opted to end the day with the benediction and start Sunday with the 3rd strike due to time constraints at the range.
Sunday proved just as beautiful a day as Saturday but started a little warmer. After a heartfelt 3rd Strike from Third Degree, we had a quick safety briefing and review of positions, steady hold factors and six steps. The morning red coat showed much improvement from Saturday. There was even one cleared red coat!
After carding the sights, the ladies were ready for the AQT grind. One AQT was completed before lunch. After hearing KD from Third Degree, it was back to the grind. Four more AQTs were completed before ending the day with the Red coat.
While we did not add any new Riflewomen to the ranks, the scores were promising. Many ladies were scoring 160's-170's, even those who were first time Appleseeders. Everyone was excited to return and bring back friends and family for some friendly competition!
Thank you to all the ladies who came out to participate! It was a great weekend! Thank you to the instructors that could help, Yankee, Third Degree, -strelok- and missy15. This could not have been possible without your help and dedication! Thank you to Henry Co Sportsmen Association for graciously hosting us and providing a wonderful lunch both days.
