Title: Pull down bullets or other low cost options
Post by: Mudcat on January 16, 2009, 07:10:52 AM
I have been looking for some of the pull down bullets to load up some low cost rounds for AS and practice. It seems as though the surplus pull down bullets have all but disapeared. Does anyone know of any place that may still have them in stock?
Maybe another low cost bullet? I have been looking at the varmit extreme and varmit nightmare anyone shoot these? This is for a 1-9 AR .223 so a 55 to 70 grn works well in this rifle with 60 being the best I've tried so far.

About the only thing left I can find is a Pat's Reloading or Powder Valley (http://www.powdervalleyinc.com). Pat's is kind of a pain to order from. Powder Valley has Winchester 55 FMJs for around 7.7¢ each, probably more like 8.5¢ when you factor in shipping. Hornady also, but they're around 10¢ a pop, maybe 11¢ with shipping. Can't speak to the Winchester pills, never having used them. The Hornady's are fine, but if you want to seat to the cannelure, they're going to be short at 2.200-2.220" instead of the usual 2.250-2.260" if that makes a difference to you.

Thanks I will see what I can find there. I do not crimp my rounds and prefer them not to have a cannelure if possible.

"I don't know of anyone off the top of my head, but if search for it RVOW.com will come up.  Do not buy from them.  They haven't been shipping for about two years but will charge your credit card."

Not true. A friend and myself made a few purchases last year.
What is true :
Establishing phone commo is difficult. It is a one woman operation, spends little time in the office alot of time putting up orders, and RVOW has been swamped like everyone else.

Stated shipping times run to eight weeks, though we got our stuff in under a month. I have an 'e' addy for her if you want to try.

Just keep searching the web for sources.
