God had it in for us poor riflemen. Here we were hoping for plenty of mud and rain, and he sends us sun...and no wind.
The line had plenty of hard-core shooters, motivated enough to come out for a Friday-Saturday shoot (Sunday being Easter). Working the line was group of enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors (some participants, assisting before returning to the line), backed by some helpful RSOs from Douglas Ridge Rifle Club who worked-in seamlessly. To all attending: thanks for making my weekend.
This was a weekend where we learned how to fish, versus being given a fish. Those few with itchy trigger-fingers may have felt a bit shorted by the fact that only three AQTs (KD) were fired, but those of us there to up our game got a windfall; loads of high-quality instruction backed by live-fire exercises to demonstrate what we just learned. Our notebooks are our friends; we can now shoot, better, on our own time.
Good citizenship was not neglected in the least. Lunchtimes were most illuminating, with plenty of concepts & questions to mull over.
While the weather wasn't adding mud to the fun, the frequent changing of lines was a good reminder to get in one's cardio work; and an opportunity to appreciate that a rifleman who travels light, travels best.
And special thanks to Kimber Custom. When he saw that certain things weren't penetrating my overwhelmed brain housing-group, he pulled me from the KD, brought me back to the 25, and had me demonstrate for myself what I wasn't absorbing. These concepts, finally experienced, are truly gifts I have received that I might pass to future generations of shooters.
This was the best possible Easter weekend. Thanks to all who made it happen.
