cheaperthandirt.com has some M855, SS109.
Description:
Lake City .223 Ammo is the best .223 Military ammo manufactured. This the original US Military Lake City Arsenal M855 SS109 Penetrator ammo. 62 grain with steel tipped penatrating core for combat use, firing at 3,025 f.p.s. very scarce and limited supplies, 20 round boxes with US Markings. This is identical to the ammo being used right now in Iraq by US troops.
Probably the best .223 ammo for combat ever produced in the USA. So scarce in the commercial market we have not sold any in 15 years. Simply put, this is some of the best ammo on the surplus ammo market today at a a great price.
Get it while you can. No telling how long this will last.

If ya like shooting through steel plate, this is good.
scuzzy
$940 bucks a case. If these war profiteers',,,er, I mean those who service the domestic shooting sports don't sell their wares in in the next week or so, they will have to eat much of their inventory. ;). I made that remark to a vendor at a funshow a couple weeks ago. He was not amused. Granted, it it's their 'last shot' as well. I hope they have worked up an appetite.
There was quite a bit of "outrage" voiced on other forums at the increase in prices that occurred at CTD and other dealers right after the November elections.
If you don't reload, you really should take a look at Wolf steel cased ammo. A lot of folks report no feed or extraction issues at all with the 5.56X45 ammo they make. Some ARs seem to have issues with it though but if you buy some and find your AR is picky about it's easy enough to sell it to someone else.
Some folks are beginning to reload the steel cases as well. I've saved up some and intend to reload it once it warms up again and I get back to the shed and the reloading bench.

YIKES! :o
.94c/round for M855?
I want to know what it does at 300yds vs 55gr. (as in, if I put in a mag of 62gr, and my sights are set for 55gr, what changes to elevation/windage will I have to do to bring it back to BSZ)
...
If you zero with a 25m zero targert using M855 (62 grn) your weapon will have a 300 meter zero using the same ammo, and should have a 250 meter zero using M193 (55 grn) ammo.
I have been loading up M855 here at a slow pace, and have an associate who loads it up for me for around $17 per 50 rds. I wish I could find some type of expanding bullets (VMAX or SP) in 62 grn to load up; or are preloaded for that matter. The terminal ballistics of the M855 concerns me.

Not 62 gr. but if it don't work we sure did use it a long time.
I have no financial interest in this company, just got an e-flyer from them.

37 cents a round, don't know how that compares to other .223 ammo. Don't even know if its "good stuff" or not. It is brass cased and boxer primed.
AIM surplus has Centurion 223, brass case / boxer, 55 gr. for 169.00 a 500 in a 30 cal can. Just got 1500 rds I have had on order since Nov 11.
Two weeks ago at the gun show I found Silver Bear 62gr. for $145/500. They had Wolf and PRVI (55gr.) for around the same price. The cheapest NATO rounds I saw were South African battle packs and they were running something like $189/250.
Keep in mind when you order ammo you're going to get hosed for shipping. If you buy in person you may save a little bit. (Don't forget to bring a cart or bookbag or something to carry it in. And, if at all possible, buy your ammo last! Nothing like walking around for three hours carrying 30 lbs. of ammo in your arms.)

That's why I bring my younger brother. :D
Better deal: http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/index.php/cName/223-556-fmj-ammo
Noted that Southern Grey's link to 5.56 ammo source showed a price drop.
Just thinking out loud here, wondering if maybe demand (and panic buying) may be peaking...
:-\
One can hope.

It is ;D I noticed driving through Nebrasks last week that the Sydney Cabelas actually had stuff on the shelf. Pallets of Hornady 223, half a pallet of Winchester 5.56, powders, CCI#35s for the big 50, lots of bullets and some 10/22s and ARs . O0 I doubt the mfgrs will catch up any time soon though.
No people are just running out of room on there credit cards :-\
Not to make this a website to advertise on but I have 800 rounds of 62 grain M855 steel core green tip from S&B all packaged in its original boxes. If anyone is interested please send me a message and we can discuss cost. I got lucky when buying it I bought 1000 rounds and the next day they were sold out. :) glad I got it.
