We had another great Appleseed at Meeker Sportsman Center near Marion, Ohio this past weekend.  We had 5 brave shooters show up Saturday morning to sunshine and 30 degree weather.  This would not have been bad except the constant 15 mph winds made it cold for all. After registration, the welcome and the safety briefing, we got to the line for the morning red coat.  Well, we had some work to do.

We only had 3 of 5 at 100, and 1 at 200.  The rest were all zeros.  So we got to work. Instructions in steady hold, the six steps and NPOA followed with their related drills. Groups improved and just before lunch, we shot two groups of sighters.  We moved the entire group to the clubhouse to warm up for lunch, the First Strike and IMC.

We moved back to the line and did sight adjustments and confirmation groups and then moved to steady hold in seated and standing.  We skipped the afternoon break and powered through to the practice AQT and the afternoon red coat.  Improvement was good.  We had 4 of 5 at 100, 3 of 5 at 200 and had 1 at 300 and 1 at 400.  We had 3 join Daniel Morgan's rangers.

We retired to the heat of the club house for a combined Second and Third Strike and a call to action.  The day came to a close.

Sunday dawned even colder than Saturday and with more wind. We did the welcome and safety and POI review in the clubhouse to take advantage of the heat. We moved to the line and with six shooters (one of the instructors joined in the redcoat) we shot the morning redcoat.  Results were encouraging.  5 of 6 at 100, 4 of 6 at 200, 4 of 6 at 300, 1 at 400 and 5 of 6 joined Morgan's rangers.  We had one cleared redcoat by our instructor.

After we carded the sights, we moved onto the AQTs.  We had two of the shooters earn their Rifleman patches. Congratulations to Joe (211) and Liam (218).  We broke for lunch and the KD lecture and returned to the line for one last AQT to give Mike one more shot at it (He shot a 208 and a 204 in the morning) but it was not to be.  We then shot the Sunday PM redcoat.

We then set up the line to work at distance.  We put steel targets at 200 and 300 and full size targets at 400 for selected shooters. The remainder of the day was spent shooting at distance.  Dom and Paul (instructors) impressed all with their pounding of the steel targets at 200 and 300 and hits at 400 on full size targets.  Joe took advantage of a chance to shoot an M1 Garand and Steve and Mike worked hard on sighting in their AR's.

The event wrapped up with smiles all around.  Another great event at Meeker Sportsman Center came to a close.  Mike and Steve, please join us again, I am sure you will get it with one more event.

My thanks to Paul and Dom for helping with this event.  And, my thanks to Meeker Sportsman Center for hosting another Appleseed.  Paul, you got the pictures, I hope you find time to post them here.

Thank you everyone for a great shoot. This was my first time acting as an IIT and it was very rewarding and educational. Congrats to our new riflemen and to all our shooters' improvement.

Thanks for holding the event in Meeker! I learned how to actually use a rifle properly and I especially appreciate all of the patience dealing with my total inexperience. After two days I was totally worn out (as I demonstrated quite well behind the AR Sunday afternoon), but getting a chance to shoot an M1 Garand? I don't care how tired I am I won't pass that up!

Thank you again, I'll be passing on the word what a great experience this is and try to get others to come out! I know a lot of people who own rifles and just stick them under the mattress and no idea how to use them. Perhaps going out with them and hitting bullseyes will push them over the edge to come out themselves and perhaps learn a bit about the folks who came before them who are the reason we don't kiss the crown and call ourselves British!

Thanks for a great time, Joe

CountZero

It was my pleasure to work with you this past weekend.  If the wind would have died down it would have been easier on all of us.  Please do come back and bring some buddies.  And, I would really appreciate it if you came back on Patriots Weekend in April.  We have five shoots across the state that day and Ohio is in the lead nationally to have the most people on the line that weekend.  Patriots Weekend at Appleseed is like Easter Weekend.  It is the most important weekend of the year.

However, Florida is getting close to us and I would really appreciate it if you could join one of our Patriots Day shoots.  We have spots available at Piqua, Ohio (North Dayton, West of Columbus) and Wilmington (south of Columbus, north of Cincy off I71).  It is the weekend of April 21 & 22, 2018.  I really want to fill our shoots so Ohio can be best in the land.

In any case, please come back and bring some friends.  And, Patriots Weekend shoots are at a discounted price so why not join us then before what you learned last weekend  wears off.  O0
