This was a special shoot for us, as it was the first shoot at the Quail Creek range. Being a new range, and the fact that this was a one-day event, brought a couple of challenges but the event went very well.
We had 8 shooters on the line - three were youth, and nearly all were very new to firearms. No new riflemen this time, but every shooter showed improvement and they tell me that they enjoyed themselves. O0 One of the experienced shooters told us that he was impressed with the high standard that Project Appleseed sets; it was a bit more challenging than he expected. Thank you to everyone on the line for being flexible as we worked with the range on their needs as well.
Some highlights of the event:
- One shooter that had never been on a range before, and had only shot a few rounds on a relative's property, showed a score of 197. Everyone did a great job listening, but especially this gentleman. Maybe it helped that he didn't have bad habits to unlearn?
- WeaponX brought his son to the event - this was his third time to our shoots. Although he was on a sandbag due to the size & weight of the rifle vs. his own body, this young man scored a 237. Great job!
- One of our lady shooters was having some frustrating mechanical issues. After switching out rifles and adjusting the scope, she shot a sighter square at the top of the paper (while aiming at center). This was just after IMC, so we all did the math - 80+ clicks - made the adjustments and she was "in the black." It was a great testament to the importance of understanding IMC, and the fact that the math works!
A special thanks to Tumbleweed, Mercedes, Gugisman and WeaponX for their help in making this event a success. Mercedes told a great 3rd strike in her efforts to advance to the coveted red hat, and WeaponX did an amazing job with the safety briefing, calling the line and even coaching the shooters - after having had his orange hat for less than a week! I'm grateful for the dedication that every one of you gives. :F

Good first shoot. And yeah - I don't know how many people thought it was going to be easy since "the targets are only 25m away."
