Title: Chugiak 8-9 July AAR
Post by: FourFans on July 10, 2017, 03:17:56 AM
A Tale of Two Shoots, sorta.
It really seamed like two different shoots, except that the players remained the same.
Saturdays' gloomy overcast (which I actually like) slowly turned to a steadily increasing rain. A rain heavy enough that, even though we were under a cover, the un-official after-after-action at a local pizza joint was canx'ed. Everyone just wanted to go home and get dry. We managed one AQT with two re-quals, and called it a day.  What is it with ME and rain? I'm really starting to think I'm snake-bit.

Then, Sunday dawns bold, bright, and Alaska Awesome. Scratch the snake-bit thing. The same excellent crew goes back to teaching a very interested group and Rifleman scores just start to roll in. 5 AQTs and we still had time to relax and have a "fun shoot".

We divided the line in half, each with 1 star target. Right team has a .30 cal,, but Left team has an extra shooter. Pretty even. 1 star per side, 20 rounds per shooter. 5 minute "strategy meeting" period. 2 minute firing time. Team Right took advantage of the strategy time and kicked butt. It was a nice de-compress, and a reminder that this is supposed to be fun.

We ended with 3 re-quals,, 2 of which re-qualed so many times it got boring. (Yep, Scott S. and Gracie F.) Our third re-qual was excellent. Alaska Rifleman #98 Jeff M. re-qualed at 213 center fire with a Ruger Scout Rifle in .308  (that's a bolt-action)  HUZZAH!!

We also welcomed 3 new Riflemen:

Ray H. with a solid 214, very nice.
David A. on his 5th AS?,, turned in a 239 followed with a 235.. Been practicing Dave?
Justus A. 16yo. My credo: Give a shooter a tool worthy of their skills and watch out. Swap over to a better rifle and dang….. 218 X2,, then an awesome 236!!!   HUZZAH!!

Alaska Rifleman # 104 Scott S. decided he had the time available to pick up the Orange Hat that he earned last fall, he's an awesome add to our cadre…. HUZZAH!!

So, add on Alaska Riflemen 117, 118, and 119; pick up Alaska Rifleman 104 as an IIT?  I'll take that in a heart-beat. Very cool weekend. Yet it really felt like two different shoots,, both being special because of those we shared it with.. Great, great people.
Hip,, Hip.......____________????
